In a Kiryat Gat bakery in the south of Israel, employees were working around the clock to prepare tens of thousands of sweet cheese pastries and individual chocolate cakes for those coming up to the Kosel, the remnant of our Beis HaMikdash, this Shavuos.
The cakes and pastries, under the strict supervision of Rabbi Moshe Landa, will be added to a “food kit,” containing sweetstuffs and drink, at the initiative of veteran charity Colel Chabad.
As it has traditionally done for many years, Colel Chabad honors the thousands of visitors to the Kosel with “Kiddusha Rabba,” giving out these packages that will be stored in specially arranged refrigeration points from tomorrow. There are dozens of “Kiddush Stations” positioned in the area where visitors can make their own Kiddush.
Just like Nakdimon Ben-Gurion in his time, who made sure there were wells of refreshing cold water for the Jews who flocked to the Beis HaMikdash so today, Colel Chabad – with the Meromim Fund – is making sure that the Jewish faithful walking the streets of Jerusalem and coming to the Makom Kadosh on Shavuot – will have a personal package waiting to refresh them.
By distributing the packages, with the help of the Western Wall Heritage Foundation and Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, people can take some food for the journey and – with the sun expected to beat down on their heads – stop, quench their thirst, rest, enjoy a tasty snack and regain the strength to walk back home.
The Rebbe‘s call is printed on each package: “Our children are guarantors for us – gather the children and the infants to hear the Aseres HaDibros in shul during Krias HaTorah on Shavuos.”
The Kahan family are also partners in this mass distribution project.
