Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams is planning to stand alongside representatives of the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council to denounce a pair of recent assaults against Jewish men in Crown Heights.
Joining them will be advocacy organizations such as the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC), and local elected officials such as Council Members Alicka Ampry-Samuel and Laurie Cumbo.
They will speak out at the corner of Rutland Road and Schenectady Avenue on Monday 4:30 PM, where a 50-year-old man walking home on Saturday afternoon from Shabbos services at a nearby synagogue encountered an attacker that allegedly beat and strangled him after screaming anti-Semitic threats at him.
Both incidents are being investigated as possible hate crimes by the New York City Police Department (NYPD).
Adams’ office said he plans to ask for the public’s assistance in catching this assailant, as well as the assailants who allegedly assaulted a 42-year-old man on Eastern Parkway near Brooklyn Avenue in the early morning hours of Saturday, April 14th.
The Anti-Defamation League announced on Sunday that it is offering $5,000 rewards for information leading to the arrests and convictions of the individuals responsible for both attacks, JTA reported.
“We unequivocally condemn these senseless assaults,” said Evan R. Bernstein, ADL New York regional director.
“We appreciate the leadership of the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force who are investigating these assaults as hate crimes. Hopefully these rewards will encourage anyone who may have seen something to come forward.”
ADL tracked 11 incidents of assaults motivated by anti-Semitism across New York State in 2017, seven of which occurred in Brooklyn. Statewide, incidents of anti-Semitism jumped over 90 percent in 2017, JTA said.

One yid greeted everyone including his anti semitic neighbor and when germans sent this yid to selection for hard labor or to gas chambers his anti semetic neighbor saved him(his anti semetic neighbor was one of the people in charge of selection) by pointing him to hard labor. Of course after the yid gave his anti semetic neighbor a warm greeting. True story from holocaust.
do you really want a kidush Hashem?
then lets not say Lashon Harah, lets dress tznius, lets not become angry, and we should be simchadilk all the time. And yes, lets greet OUR FELLOW YIDDEN with a smile and a gut Shabbos
very well said. Chilul/kidush Hashem has nothing do with a greeting. Would it be proper to greet the opposite gender for no specific reason do you want an eidele lady greeting unknown strangers? this is plain Eisav soneh l’Yaakov, plain and simple

Wow, you sure read things into what I wrote that were not there!
People with your attitude give all of us a bad name, R”L.
I spy Rivka and Shterna! Great job video bombing!
Menachem… you should have a refuah shelaimah. I’m so glad to see you are okay! MOSHIACH NOW!
You seem to be living in some fantasy bubble. What makes you think we should be going around and greeting subhumans who hate Yidden? I’m not saying this Yid did anything wrong in this scenario, but you are claiming we should all talk to these people for fear of chilul Hashem?! Don’t you understand they are jealous and have a hatred towards Yidden and wait all day for an excuse to cause harm! Not sure what Igros has to do with any of this but by giving these people attention you are creating an opening for them to do something.… Read more »
Where are our community leaders and council! If this was Williamsburg or Boro Park they would raise a storm!
It’s a shame our community is so weak especially on these issues. We are always quick to criticize and blame all other Yiddishe communities about everything but when it comes to actually doing something about our own situations we twiddle our thumbs.
Look at the hat and robe. Looks like he from the peaceful religion.
I don’t know whether or not you live in this part of Crown Heights, but I have lived here “down south” for almost 15 years. I have never encountered a non-Jew here who didn’t appreciate a greeting. (I greet women, since I’m female.) Some don’t return the greeting, but even in those individuals, I notice a softening in their posture after I smile at them. It sounds like you may be (unintendedly) blaming the victim for “being the first to greet your neighbor with a happy countenance,” as Pirkei Avos advises us. Please think about what you are saying! #1 whomever can make it to the press conference please come and bring your kids.
#2 When this animal gets caught its important to flood every court hearing with community members. Otherwise he’ll be given some diversion program sentence.
No offense, I also do it it, but why say hi in the first place. Keep to yourself, do not offer anything. I tell my kids that all the time. Sign even open up the possibility for interaction. It won’t save all, but it Might’ve helped.
The words this menuvel said were straight out of her mouth and straight out of the mouths of many who blame the Jews for everything under the sun… She may have asked to shut off the mike, but her words and the words of others are still heard and those that say these words are directly responsible for hate related crimes It is their hand too that hit this Yid Hashem halt cheshbon And in the meantime….all the so called lovers of justice have dissapeared in this situation and are not to heard. Their printing machines only print signs of… Read more »

Build a NYS Trooper police station on NYS land (Utica & Clarkson – huge area ), and let the troopers walk the neighborhood. Let’s start a petition for NYS Sen Hamilton and NYS Assemblywoman Richardson.
We need your leadership. The vaad Hakahaol has been long overdue. The current people running the neighborhood are shams and do nothing. No elections !!!! We need new leadership
it’s time to teach our boys self-defense in yeshivas.
Don’t talk to strangers!
he looks like he’s dressed in a robe
People who are angry hateful and unhappy should
go for help. No tolerance for debased humans who hurt the innocent.
Are you guys with it? “Allegedly” beat….? Is the video not clear enough?
A holy yid. Halevai another yid would have been there to help.
I couldn’t even finish watching the video! Terribly Frightening!!!! Everyone says Rabbi Moskowitz is such a nice man, so sorry he had to go through such a horrifying experience!!
We must form an APOLITICAL committee with good mixture people with various strengths, who have a pure agenda. Then all should join in and take action.
