Rabbi Eli and Faygie Goorevitch along with their daughter Rivka, have recently moved to the city of Dana Point, CA to establish the town’s first Chabad Jewish Center.
Faygie and Eli are children and grandchildren of Shluchim. Rabbi Eli grew up in the neighboring city of Laguna Beach, and Faygie (nee Lew) grew up in Atlanta, GA.
“Dana Point seemed like the perfect fit for us,” Rabbi Eli said. “As a young rabbinical student, I spent many days there meeting with residents and shopkeepers before the Yomim Tovim; bringing Challah for Shabbos, blowing the Shofar, and handing out Menorahs for Chanukah, etc. but there was never a formal Jewish presence in town.”
“Our initial focus will be on Youth and Teen programming, with the implementation of the highly successful worldwide Cteen program,” continued Rabbi Eli.
Plans are underway for Shabbat services, holiday events, and adult education. In addition, one on one study sessions and Bar/Bat Mitzvah tutoring are just a few of the services that will be made available at Chabad.
The Goorevitchs are thrilled to be settling in Dana Point with its natural beauty, sense of community and friendly people. Above all, they are truly excited to spread the joys of Yiddishkeit and bring the Rebbe much Nachas.
