Rabbi Mendy and Mushka Krasnjansky (nee New) have been appointed to be the Rebbe’s new Shluchim to the island of Maui, Hawaii, under the auspices of the Head Shluchim, Rabbi Itchel and Perel Krasnjansky.
Maui, a tropical paradise of the Hawaiian island chain, is one of the most geographically remote places on earth. Maui is home to some 150,000 people, among them an estimated 5,000 Jews, along with thousands of Jewish tourists, annually.
Local born Hawaiians are called “kama’aina” in Hawaiian. Mendy, born on Shlichus, is the first kama’aina in recorded history to be ordained as a rabbi.
“I always wanted to return to the cradle of my birth to spread the Rebbe’s Torah, as the Possuk says “Aniyei ircha kodem – the people of one’s city take precedence,” he says.
Mushka Krasnjansky, daughter of Rabbi Ruvi and Ahuva New, was born and bred on shlichus in East Boca Raton, Florida.
The couple recently welcomed an addition to their family, their daughter Maya Rayzel, who will begin her life with shlichus, making her a fifth-generation shlucha on her matrilineal line.
In previous years, Maui has been privileged to have hosted Rabbi Shalom Shaya and Danit Schusterman as the Shluchim to the Island.
The Krasnjanskys said they feel naturally called to the life of shlichus and are thrilled to be bringing the light of Torah to all Jews on the island via vigorous mivtzoyim, shiurim, and varied programs catering to all Jewish needs, especially those unique to the remote island.
