At first, he went from store to store selling Benzís fish from his van. Since then Benzís foods has grown into an international brand, offering many more items, such as herring, tuna, horseradish and a food service division.

In the last 15 years, Benzi changed the face of the kosher market again with the introduction of Benzís Gourmet. A one of a kind strictly kosher epicurean wonderland based out of his store at 332 Albany Avenue in Crown Heights Brooklyn.

In this podcast he discusses the virtues of perseverance, bringing family into the business, the need for constant innovation, how to view competition and the importance of a set schedule.

loyal customer
Even if I don't need to buy anything I stop in each week. There is NO other store/business in the world like Benz's, where every person who walks in is treated like family. Why? Because it all trickles down from Mr. Raskin at the top!

and EVERY SINGLE THING in that store is outstandingly fresh and delicious and made much healthier than other stores. it's worth it to me to walk the extra two blocks to get for example tuna salad THERE.
