Trucks, vans, and SUVs of the Misaskim organization’s volunteers and staff have fanned out across the tri-state area in the first 48 hours since the end of Tishrei holidays.
They have been delivering shiva-related materials to over 86 homes, encompassing more than 434 new aveilim in Crown Heights, Williamsburg, Boro Park, Flatbush, Monsey, Kiryas Joel and Lakewood.
It was the very first time that Misaskim’s warehouses were bare to the walls. “This is the first time we have had to actually postpone deliveries until we are restocked,” said Rabbi Yankie Meyer, Misaskim’s founder and president.
Over Sukkos, there were several unexpected deaths that required Misaskim interaction with the Medical Examiner’s office, to ensure their burials in record-breaking time.
And during Chol Hamoed, they held a massive outing for over 600 orphans and their surviving parent. A large Sukkah was constructed for that event alone.
Misaskim’s CEO Rabbi Yosef C. Golding explained that since “no one sits down to shiva until after Yom Tov is over, our office was fielding requests immediately after Shabbos.”
He said such a post-Yom Tov demand occurs every 6 months. “We came close last Motzoei Pesach, but not at this level.” The recent passings pushed Misaskim over the limit, both in terms of materials and Sifrei Torah, as well as manpower, he noted.
Moshiach will come but Misaskim will be dealing with simcha issues, can you imagine the korbanos and the people on har habayis? It will be crazy, we need people with organzational skills when Moshiach comes too
and put this hard working organization out of business!
