Natalie Grumet, a regular at Chabad of Laguna Niguel in California, was one of the people injured in the Las Vegas Strip shooting on Sunday night.
Grumet and her husband Jason Grumet were present when a lone gunman opened fire on the audience of a music festival, killing over 50 people and injuring close to 500 others.
Natalie, who is a cancer survivor and works as a beauty guide, was struck in the face by the gunfire. “Her jaw was shattered, and she will need many future reconstructive surgeries,” a friend told COLlive.com.
“She was taken to a hospital in the Las Vegas area and a team is working to potentially have Natalie flown to a trauma center in Orange County, California,” her sister-in-law Heather Flores updated.
Natalie Grumet will undergo surgery on Tuesday morning to stabilize the wound. Her family launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover the medical cost.
“The flight to Orange County is costly,” Flores said. “The money would be spent towards the flight there and general medical expenses. We thank you in advance for all your kind words and support during this tragic time.”
Rabbi Mendy Paltiel, Director of Chabad of Laguna Niguel, endorsed the campaign. “Our community is rooting for you Natalie, for a successful surgery and a complete & speedy recovery!” he wrote on Facebook. “Hang in there dear friends.”
