Blowing Shofar – for yourself or on Mivtzoim – is a responsibility and mistakes (that are ma’akev) are at times made. After reviewing the halachos, one should have an expert listen to his Tekios, to make sure that it’s being done correctly.
To help you with perfecting your tekios, Rabbi Simcha Werner of Monsey, NY, composed a concise guide of the halachos of Shofar in both Hebrew and English.
Another reference is the tekios of London Shliach Rabbi Shmuel Lew who is known to carefully follow the Rebbe’s tekios:
Tabbi Tennenbaum, who blew in770, was not mafsik, his father (the Rebbe’s Baal Tokeah, was not mafsik, some of the more expirianced reliable baalei tokea in Israel (Rabbis Slonim, Oifeb (I believe), to name a few, are not Mafsik. In any event, discuss it with your local rabbi.
The Baal tokeah in 770, is not magsik
We are definitely נוהג to be מפסיק without a נשימה and every experienced בעל תוקע does that.
For non experienced people some Rabonim just say simplify and say dont make a Hefsek to avoid confusion because at least you’re יוצא with no Hefsek
WHy do you say we are not noheg that if the alter rebbe writes clearly that we should?
That’s not what we are noheg for the most part (reason being, since it can get complicated, stopping but not making a hefsek). But speak to your local rabbi to confirm.
How about mentioning the pause (not breath) between the shevarim and teruah for tekiyas meyushav?
this is what the internet was created for! thank you and a good sweet year to you all!
