Hi,
This video clip shows what happened to me today. It was recorded by my dash cam while I was driving up Kingston Avenue in Crown Heights.
I think it would be good to post to let parents and children see what the dangers are.
For drivers: We always need to be vigilant.
For children: Being safe better than sorry.
VIDEO:
STOP picking on this driver
yes he was speeding or no he wasn’t
irrelevant.
as he said himself, he isn’t saying he is a perfect driver and his goal isn’t to accuse anyone or pick on anyone, but to save lives of OUR CHILDREN
it’s bizarre to now turn around and say “hey who are you to say…” when he’s only trying to help YOU
say thank you
i’ll start
thank you, driver, for posting this. very important and lifesaving
That the distance from checks cashed to sunshine pharmacy is 225 feet – add another 25 feet for him starting the video from the middle of empire – that’s 250 …saying a regular block is 350 feet is irrelevant if this one is shorter . Facts don’t lie – this guy was driving under the speed limit – just looks quicker on video .
That block is 300′ long, Google it. The speed would be a little above 29mph.
The guy was playing
“H is always guarding over me!..” and that when she crossed
What a wonderful hashgacho protis!
Ktiva vechaismo tova!
I can always identify my kids even if their faces aren’t showing. This mom is probably mortified that others can recognize her too. Or she could be a mother who lets her 5 year old take the 3 year old to push the 2 year old in a stroller across ENY (2 way street.) Yes, folks, I have seen this many times in Israel. & a few times in CH. It’s a major problem, lack of supervision. Next time, a reckless driver may not be able to avoid a tragedy. Next time a child listening to ear phones may not… Read more »
I respect you for sending in the video.
The guy in the car already knows (said) he was wrong, for maybe going a bit to fast. BUT I don’t see a comment from the kid crossing the street. saying the the kid was wrong
I’m Going to show this. video to my kid right now! are you?
or are you just going to go off on the guy for driving?
THAT IS REALLY CRAZY WE SHOULD REALLY BE CAREFUL
Cross thinking you’ll beat the car.
If you do,
That’s the inductor to be patient.
Learn patience.
It shocks me when im driving in CH and pple dont care that its red theyll cross anyways……….
that teachers, yes grown women don’t look for care either and they just cross when they get to the street, l have a few times pointed out to people that the light is red, so truthfully the children see the adults crossing without looking, a lot of people do it, in those days not to many had cell phones, it must be people are spacey, there minds are not focus on where they are going, when my children were young, l told them they need to wait for the cars to stop, because you have no idea what kind of drivers… Read more »
I like your knack for math.
Can you please figure out how much time we save by taking 2 steps in to the intersection, waiting for the light to turn green, instead of waiting on the sidewalk.
It must save tons of time, otherwise pedestrians wouldn’t risk their lives doing it.
Ksiva vachasima tova everyone.
While people must watch the cars and the cars watch the people, everyone should get a dash camera. A good camera is about $100 and it will help you in case there is an accident or police encounters or insurance fraud claims.
Guys. Get used to it. The month is upon us. We all need to be vigalent when driving (including me) as a lot of our visitors seem to think that walking in front of a moving car is like holding up a stop sign….yesterday a group of bochurim a mere 5 feet from me walked in front of my car because they didn’t want to wait for me to pass them.
Why are we discussing this particular driver? There are many, many drivers out there who drive fast and that isn’t the issue. The point is that children need to be cautious and pro active. We are talking about children’s lives – not some mathematical problem!
Children need to learn to NEVER cross unless given a WALK, and Even Then, to look both ways before crossing because cars turn without slowing down! From here we see even ‘GOOD’ drivers ignore the Posted Speed Limit, so children MUST take care of Themselves at ALL times!!!
When will people stop double parking on kingston?? it obstructs views and is illegal and can lead to loss of life Ch”v
Just wanted to point out that the car was double parked obstructing the view of the driver and the little girl.
Thanks for posting this. Even through you knew you would get backlash for speeding (which it looks like in the video) the bottom line is that everyone can learn from this so than you for sharing.
speeding ticket right now 🙂
to #15.
I believe the size of each block is 330 ft. not 250. 16 blocks to a mile. a mile is 5280 ft. 5280 / 16 = 330. 16 blocks * 7 seconds per block = 112 seconds per mile. an hour has 3600 seconds (60 * 60). 3600 / 112 = 32.14 mph.
First you follow the law before calling out others for breaking the law.
hes going 21.3 miles PH – under the speed limit …he went 250 ft in 7 seconds
C’mon he’s going about 20 mph if anything. Before answering this, take a dash cam, record yourself and then do diagnostics. I did already.
Good Afternoon, I don’t remember how fast I was going, but I ran the numbers and it seems like 35+ MPH. I was at first reluctant to send in this video, due to all the lash back that I deserve, but then I thought about the bigger picture. I was absolutely wrong for going that fast, but at the same time, the child was absolutely wrong for running into the street. I didn’t send this in just to show how dangerous it is to run into the street. I sent this in so that drivers can realize that these things… Read more »
I believe there are lights on most corners on Kingston Ave, therefore the driver was within rights! The child ran across when it was NOT her light, the child should have waited! Good thing ‘Hashem was watching over me!’
Where on the cam does it indicate the speed?
Maybe he was sticking to speed limit
Hardly going to post his death-warrant
Lol u idiot make a post about vigilance and here u are speeding at 80
to ALWAYS look both ways 3 times WHILE crossing the street. It drives me mad when I see people, not just kids anymore just walk straight into the road without a sideways glance at approaching traffic. its an attitude programmed into the new ‘ME’ generation that others have to create a safe space for me. I dont have to be responsible, Its others who will ensure my surroundings as i need it to be. We need to teach our kids personal responsibility, its in the Torah we musnt let the outside world selfish reckless values permeate our lives. I believe… Read more »
Looked like 7 seconds to drive one block. This seems like 30+ MPH. Speed limit in NYC is 25 MPH unless otherwise posted. Both driver and pedestrian were at fault.
a few feeks ago Shabbos afternoon,I was standing on Empire corner Albany near the cleaners waiting for the light to cross to Lefferts Ave. Diagonally across the street was three boys maybe 10 and under coming from Lefferts ave.to Empire that just walked across the two way street against the light. After they crossed just about halfway, a car came by!.I shouted to them across the street when the finished crossing to be careful and to WAIT for the light becasue it was so dangerous. One of the boys shout back to me, Its none of your business. ( imagine… Read more »
Thanks for sharing. You’re 100% correct about the child running out. But I’m just curious how fast were you going?? The speed limit is 25 MPH which makes it easier to stop in such a case, but based on the video it seems like you were going more like 40 MPH!!!
Hashem is always watching over me
Chevre
Let’s slow down the speed of the cars while driving as well!!
The pedestrian crossing is many times irresponsible.
BUT THE DRIVERS INCLUDING THE YIDDEN SPEED – like in this video- and honk and text and are a danger to the entire environment.
BS”D
a valid point
however you were driving way to fast for a neighborhood filled with children
Your point is well made. Parents should teach their kids street safety.
Just wanted to point out that at the exact moment the child ran across the street the words of the song was “Hashem is always watching over me”!
But of course we need to do our part and not be reckless.
Thank you for posting!!
The schools in Crown Heights should have classes for” street safety”.
I had them growing up in Israel. Its so important !!!
Unfortunately, I also saw girls and young buchurim text on their phone while walking into the crosswalk area, whiteout lifting their eyes !!, and texting during late nights in quite streets.
