Update:
The Gruen family is recovering from a terrible car accident early Friday morning.
Avrom Gruen was driving with 5 of their 6 children on Rt. 80 heading back to Cleveland, when they struck an overturned tractor-trailer that was lying across the highway in the dark. They were first sent to a local hospital and then transported by the Med-Evac team to the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, due to the severity of their injuries.
One of the children has a laceration to the liver but is boruch H-shem up and responsive. Another has a broken leg and a broken jaw (has now been able to return home to the other siblings). A third child is in serious and critical condition, and has had one surgery and will need more for the liver, pancreas, and diaphragm. And a fourth child has a very serious brain injury and we are hoping for the best.
Two of the children and the family have a long, hard road to recovery and will need help in many ways. Some expenses will be covered by insurance, much of it will not be. Outside of the medical expenses, the community is mobilizing and has hired an aid to assist with the children, while the parents are in the hospital with the girls. Living expenses, child-care (including for the 4 month old baby), insurance, utilities, meals, and transportation must be covered to allow the parents to focus on being with the children that are in the hospital. Money must be raised to help in the road to recovery. WE NEED YOUR HELP! While the family did not wish to be a burden to klal, they finally agreed to allow us to help them through this painful ordeal.
