Rabbi Meir Mazuz, Rosh Yeshivas Kisei Rachamim in Bnei Brak and one of Israel’s most respected poskim, has released a psak halacha that one should not fly from Israel on Motzoei Shabbos for fear of Chilul Shabbos.
During his weekly shiur, Rabbi Mazuz cited a ruling from the late posek Rabbi Ovadia Yosef that one should not get married on Motzoei Shabbos due to Chilul Shabbos. Rabbi Mazuz applied this to flying abroad as well.
Rabbi Mazuz explained it is preferable not to fly on Motzoei Shabbos, noting that in 5763, he flew abroad for the first time to raise funds for his institutions.
His flight was on Motzoei Shabbos with the plane departing at 10:00 PM. At the time he was suffering significant pain and had forgotten the medicine he had brought with him on the phone.
“I asked myself why is this happening to me?” Rabbi Mazuz recounted.
Rabbi Mazuz said he later learned a talk from the Rebbe stating that one should not fly on Motzoei Shabbos out of Israel since preparations for the flight are carried out on Shabbos.
“They do as they please, but we must know one should not fly on Motzoei Shabbos,” the rabbi concluded.
most of the El-AL flights from Tel-Aviv to the USA and Canada (to NY,NJ,LA,Boston,Toronto) depart at 1am Israeli time which is way past the time when Shabbos ends highly doubtful that a flight crew is being mechalel Shabbos for those flights.
Maybe because if you’re going in the opposite direction you might now be in a place where it’s still Shabbos?
to +1
cant compare a one time wedding
to a weekly flight
It could be for a wedding he is talking about in Israel where the almost the entire society are Yidden. But in Chutz La’Aretz where we rely on Goyim for a lot of things, if we know that the Jews involved in the wedding preparations are shomer Shabbos, than maybe we can get married on Motzei Shabbos.

Thank you for helping us with being sure we are keeping Shabbos. I wonder in what other situations this would apply. By the way, maybe things were different back then, according to Ymai Chabad, the Rebbe Rashab got married on Motzoai Shabbos.
Which sicha of the rebbe is that?
Which Sicha was that?
Thank you very much for sharing this story and all I could say is we want Moshiach now
Interesting, important information to know. Schoyach!
My Uncle and Aunt got married on a Motzei Shabbos, when no other dates were available, by the instruction of the Rebbe Shlita. about 62 years ago.
