It’s summer in the city. For many that means summer camp preparations, relaxed outdoor barbeques, and an escape to the country. But for the ill in our community, summer is an especially difficult season. Soaring temperatures limit mobility for those battling illness while their year-round support structure dwindles as friends and family leave town.
This makes Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka Bikur Cholim’s efforts during this time of year more necessary and vital than ever. But it is also when we are most understaffed.
While our generous and noble volunteers are away, illness stays.
Throughout the summer, Bikur Cholim continues to provides the services our community depends upon us for. A meal request for a family affected by illness… Rides for a mother leaving her home at 6am to receive treatment… Lunch for a family of young orphans sitting shiva… During July and August we often don’t have a volunteer to answer the call and we resort to ordering meals and covering taxis.
These services, amongst many others, come at a tremendous financial cost for the organization, one that we cannot support alone.
Please consider making a donation to Bikur Cholim of Crown Heights. If you’re in the city over the summer and can volunteer for meals or rides we’d be grateful. We are working around the clock to ensure that the ill members of our community have all of their needs met and we ask you to take part.
Visit www.BikurCholimCH.org to make a donation or to be added to our volunteer roster. We send out a text when a meal or ride is needed and you can simply respond ‘YES’ when it works.
We thank you. Our community thanks you.
