Mendy Posner is utilizing his decade long experience designing and manufacturing household and gift items in China, to compete in a market typically known for its steep prices.
Posner has recently launched “Atzi Hats,” an online store the offers traditional black fedoras worn by Chassidic men and boys of the Chabad-Lubavitch community.
“It’s a new generation of consumers,” says Posner, who is part of the growing Chabad community in Kingston, Pennsylvania. In the nearby city of Wilkes-Barre, there is an operating Yeshiva for boys.
“There is no reason for a hat to be more difficult to buy online than a pair of shoes,” Posner told COLlive.com. “People want a straightforward, easy way to shop regardless of their schedule or location, and they don’t want to overpay.”
Atzi Hats offers a single design of a hat made of 100% wool felt with a low 4.2-inch crown, a 2-inch brim, and a grosgrain ribbon bow.
“Our design takes into account the size of the ribbon, the depth of the pinch, the height of the crown, and the width and slope of the brim,” he says.
The hat is offered at a fixed priced of $60, a far cry from upwards of $200 that brick-and-mortar stores charge in the New York and New Jersey area. Atzi Hats offers free shipping in the USA and a free hat carrier with every purchase.
The size itself is determined by the consumer. Atzi Hats recommends using a soft measuring tape or string to measure the widest part of your head. Hats sizes run between 52 and 64 centimeters.
“Buying a hat should be simple, and you should be able to wear it with ease, throughout your day and throughout your life,” Posner says.

We used to go to nj for cheaper hats … thank you for this option
Can all this negativity stop please!
If you dont agree or don’t like then don’t buy but don’t get nasty. Some of us can’t afford the more expensive hat so just stop with your comments. We too are chassidim, dress tznius act Aidele learn torah and do mitzvos! Just saying…
There is no end of cheap hat alternatives, be it black hats, or different type of hats.
I couldn’t agree more. What is important in life is the size of a person’s hat brim. When you have a bigger hat brim you’re a bigger chosid. When you have a small brim you’re a smaller chosid. This is how things work. Its a fact. Not to mention wool. Don’t even get me started about wool. First and foremost a simple Google search will reveal that a sheep and a rabbit are not the same animal. Do Atzi customers think they are? Well they are mistaken. But that is a side point. Actually its a main point in general,… Read more »
Large brims (which are pretty ugly for nowadays) only came into style a few years ago. If you go back to the 60s or the 70s everyone had a shorter brim, no one cried that it wasn’t chassidish. In our community we have a problem separating ikar from tafel. Get a hat that fits you and that in your opinion looks good.
If you have an internet business or profession and are self-supporting, Kingston is a great option! Warm, supportive chassidishe community, affordable, excellent chinuch. Come check it out!
Minhag Chabad is to wear a black hat in that shape. Period. Rabbit vs wool is NOT part of that minhag. You wear which ever material you prefer.
as as professional hat salesman this hat is a typical wool hat, there is now way that it will hold its shape, if it gets wet there is nothing you can do as far as shping or blocking the hat…
These are very modern looking hats, we need to go back to bachurim and men having NORMAL size hats like chassidim should. We shouldn’t care about how we look and want to look “stylish”. Leave that for the goyim!!
You’re looking good mendy…
this is not news just pushing a cheap product. I’ll stick with the traditional classy felt fedoras thank you.

“Traditional black fedoras worn by Chassidic men and boys of the Chabad-Lubavitch community.”
Since when is WOOL traditional? Since when were sheep and rabbits the same animal?
This article is very misleading. It’s comparing something like the announcing of the opening of an online synthetic shaitel store and claiming that the prices are a far cry from the exuberant costs from a regular shaitel macher.
I would love to hear how WOOL became minhag Chabad.
Its under the hat that one should worry about
2″ brim on an adult looks ridiculous and not the proper fit at all.
Can we get 3″?
Wow that seems like a great idea! Finally something on the market that is respectable but doesn’t break the bank!
And wont it be nice to have good customer service for once!!
I tried a wool hat, they are very uncomfortable compared to the felt option
Finally someone here to break the cartel! When are we going to have someone for the sheitels?
I think more like “chatzi”, as in 1/2, referring to the shorter brim (like 1/2 the size of a regular brim ☺️)
Krinny dont get a head of yourself, a few more months for that kapota mate!
If so how much in shekalim?
We pay here NIS 600 for hats.
Since when are hat sizes in cm? This is a great idea, perfect for a bachur’s first hat. How much is shipping to Israel?
You should have hatzlacha.just bought a hat came just as described
Wool felt is far less expensive than fur felt. If they add a fur felt line I will be the first customer. Best of luck
Is that like “Shtatzi”?
If you wear 300 dollar shoes then spend 300 on a hat.
For me 60 bucks for a hat that looks good and doesn’t get ruined in a month is perfect and smart .
Brilliant thing.
Thank you
Doesnt go till 64. Only available till 59.
Now if you can just make it soft similar to a borsalino you’ve got a customer! Thanks
Great idea. Hatzlach rabbah. Now would someone take care of the women and pleasecreate more affordable good quality sheitels. Also with free shipping. Enough of the crazy prices.
B”H
Great idea. This should help many people.
(It won’t help me, as a 2″ brim on a good sized adult looks kind of ridiculous. Maybe they’ll offer a model with a larger brim sometime in the future.)
Hatzlocha Rabba!
My kinda hat. 100% RABBIT felt. You get what you pay for. Much hatzlocho
You must add both the hat and brush to your cart for the promo code to work.
Finally finally finally!!! We won’t need to take a loan out for a hat. and they are so beatiful!! thank you, and only mazal!!!
What’s the kuntz of paying less and getting cheaper quality? You can’t compare
Why wouldn’t I just get it for $30 on Amazon?
HTZLOCHO RABA UMUFLAGA.!!!!!!!
Go mendy!!!! Wishing you much hatzlacha!!!
