Brooklyn Heights Jewish Academy (BHJA) is a new orthodox Jewish day school located in Brooklyn Heights.
Opened by Rabbi Aaron and Shternie Raskin, BHJA is building on the success of the Gan Menachem Kiddie Korner preschool and is providing a one of a kind education for every child.
Rabbi Raskin, who is also the Dean of Brooklyn Heights Jewish Academy, believes in offering an unparalleled Judaic as well as secular education to every BHJA student. This is why the school is a ‘No Child Held Back’ school with a mission to cater the education to fit the needs and abilities of our students vs. expecting the students to mold to the school curriculum. To do so, education is differentiated, hands on, and focuses not only on intellectual growth of the child but also emotional, social, physical, and religious development.
Students in Brooklyn Heights Jewish Academy get exposed to a variety of subjects on a daily basis. In addition to the Judaic education and the secular learning objectives, the school offers a wide range of extra curricular activities. Students at BHJA participate in chess, physical education, Tikkun Olam, home economics, and Ivrit in addition to their daily lessons. Furthermore, to make learning come alive, the school takes monthly field trips in relation to the curriculum so that the students can experience and interact with the knowledge they are learning in class.
Brooklyn Heights Jewish Academy is home to students from many neighborhoods of New York. Brooklyn Heights, Crown Heights, Park Slope, Lower East Side, and as far away as Sheepshead Bay are just some of the areas from where our students travel to come to school. Furthermore, with school buses for the following year, traveling to and from school has never been easier.
For the next school year, Brooklyn Heights Jewish Academy is currently accepting applications for kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade. An Open House is scheduled for this upcoming Sunday, April 30th, from 11AM to 12PM.
The Open House will be held at 597 Montgomery Street in Brooklyn. Please RSVP to the Head of School, Marina Pinkhasik, at [email protected] or (203)437-2925.
Progressive means using the latest in cutting edge computer technology to our help our students progress to their full potential. This is a 100% Chabad orthodox school that is run by Chabad of Brooklyn Heights and Rabbi Ari Raskin. The teachers are all chassidish and they teach kids from all types of backgrounds. A classroom will have kids from both frum Crown Heights homes, as well as kids from secular backgrounds. Hope this cleared that up. If you have any other questions you can email [email protected] or call 203-437-2925

@7 What about ‘Tikkun Olam’? It’s a Brooklyn Heights Jewish day school. It’s aimed, firstly, at Brooklyn Heights Jewry who trend much more modern than we do, mostly. Parents from Crown Heights that can handle the tuition and wish to raise their children in a modern orthodox style prep school environment will do so. The marketing reflects the intended target audience and to a lessor degree the values of the schools founders and administrators. This is R’ Raskin’s project so there’s no reason to assume any hidden agenda to reinterpret Judiasm. Whether we should educate our children there is besides… Read more »

This looks awesome
How much is tuition?
This truly is a diamond of a school. The teachers are warm and loving, there is a low teacher/student ratio, and the curriculum is outstanding. If there are parents out there looking for a better education then local Crown Heights schools can offer, this is definitely worth looking into. Its fairly close, and there will be bussing next year. The class sizes are intentionally kept small so that each student gets the attention and support that they need to blossom. My sons class is mostly Lubavitcher kids that come from Crown Heights, and all the teachers are very frum and… Read more »
Lamplighters is “mixed” only in preschool.
It’s a mixed school similar to lamplighters, but some grades happen to be all boy classes..
I switched my son from a large Crown Heights school to Brooklyn Heights Jewish Acadamy and he’s had the most incr double year ever. He loves school and looks forward to going every day. He has learned so much in the last year and at 5 years old already knows basic reading, addition, subtraction, chess, among tons of other subjects. They offer a thorough Judaic and secular education in a warm, loving, and Lubavitcher atmosphere. I wish more schools in Brooklyn took their lead. They’re doing everything right!
