The long-awaited boys Chidon Shabbaton began Thursday.
“After counting down for months, the chayolim are finally here,” says on-site director Rabbi Zalman Shimon Itkin. “They’ve earned each and every exciting thing that is planned for them!”
Upon arrival, chayolim were welcomed into the JCM, gifted with their new Chidon sweaters, and went to join their bunks. “I can’t wait to meet friends from all over the world,” says one contestant. Boys have traveled from all over the world—as far as Sweden, Turkey, and Denmark—to join this Shabbaton.
After a satisfying breakfast, students took the final test, the determining factor of who won a gold, silver, or bronze medal. “I’m proud of all the hard work, even if I don’t win” says a contestant.
Then it was off to SkyZone and bowling for some, and ice skating and Bounce for others, and dinner on a boat for all. Whew! Happy chayolim returned to their hosts’ houses in Crown Heights to get a good night’s sleep and prepare for the rest of Shabbaton.
“The Shabbaton is only getting started,” continues Rabbi Itkin. “There’s more in store for these hard-working chayolim.”
