As the international Chidon approaches, the community scrambles to reserve their seats.
“The Chidon literally transformed our home,” shares parent Esti Mochkin. “Instead of lying in bed and reading or playing football in the park, our son chooses to sit with a chavrusa to study.”
In just a few weeks, over one-thousand hard-working children will attend the Shabbaton in Crown Heights. The highlight of the weekend is Sunday’s game show competition and award ceremony.
Chidon Headquarters invite you to experience first-hand the remarkable breadth of knowledge that the girls and boys have worked hard to gain. Finalists, split into teams, will be drilled by judges on the intricacies of the 613 mitzvos. “The amount of information that the school representatives know was incredibly impressive,” add Aron and Frayda Brown.
The audience will hold their breath as they cheer for their school’s representative. “The excitement at last year’s Chidon game show was palpable…we were totally caught up in the thrill,” add parents Mendel and Chana Gittel Goldstein. Last year, the event sold out fast, so hurry to reserve your seats.
Making it this far doesn’t come easy, as the 1,044 chayolim who qualify for the Shabbaton can testify. “I’ve been studying all the time,” says Chaya Mann, a seventh grader at LEC Florida. “Last year’s final test and game show had some really hard questions, and this year I’m going for a trophy!” An award ceremony following the game show will announce which chayolim won plaques, medals, or—most prestigious of all—trophies.
Mark your calendar! The Chidon game show will take place on Sunday, Chof Alef Adar (March 19) at the Francis de Sales School for the Deaf in Crown Heights at 10:00 a.m. The boys’ event will take place in the same location and at the same time a week later, on Sunday, Chof Ches Adar (March 26).
May this limud bring us one step closer to the coming of Moshiach, the time when we will finally be able to keep all six-hundred-thirteen mitzvos.
