Lamplighters Yeshivah
Hey Teves was celebrated all week at Lamplighters Yeshivah! From the moment the children walked into school they were greeted at the entrance by an inspirational video of the Rebbe and his chassidim singing Didan Notzach. The atmosphere was perfectly set for the children to feel the yom tov.
Throughout the week, Lamplighters hosted their very first book fair. Teachers and PTO parents together lovingly curated the wide selection of educational, interactive Jewish books and seforim for everyone to enjoy.
Morah Rivkah Schack, head of school, sent out a video the night before Hey Teves describing the educational value in each of the books that were chosen for the book fair. In addition, each teacher created a wishlist so that families could donate books to the classrooms, and delightfully, so many books were donated to the school! Even grandparents and family members chipped in!
On Hey Teves itself, our elementary students toured the Rebbe’s library, interacting with the multitudes of rare seforim, manuscripts, photographs and documents to really bring chassidishe heritage alive. “The children were amazed to see the detail taken by the Rebbeim to document and write down the essentials of Chassidus to publish it for their Chassidim” Rabbi Zalmy Dubinsky, elementary boys rebbie, observed.
Preschool students enjoyed a book reading by one of their favorite authors, Mrs. Sara Blau. She read two of her books to the students “Glad to be Me” and “If I Went to the Moon”, and told the children her inspiration for writing the books. Elementary girls also enjoyed a book reading by parent and acclaimed writer, Mr. Matthue Roth, who also taught the girls about about the process of writing, the structure of a story, and all about storytelling.
And even more exciting, was the ongoing sefer repair workshop that was set up at Lamplighters. Equipped with a drill press, binding tape, thread and all of the necessary materials, children were able to bring in books from home that were in need of a little bit of love! Not only did they get to give their books a whole new life, but they were able to learn book repair skills in the process!
Parents and students alike really felt the inspiration of this special day. “The whole mood in school was beautifully set with the videos of the Rebbe when the kids walked in. I was so impressed with the book fair– there were so many choices! Even more special was the trip to the Rebbe’s library today.” remarked Mrs. Miri Farro, a parent.
“The atmosphere and beautiful book fair was so very special and appreciated!” another parent, Mrs. Chani Rappoport exclaimed. “Thank you Lamplighters, and to all those caring women involved, in making Hey Teves felt in such a meaningful manner!”
Go Reb Vadi!
Additional to the importance of a forum bichlal and mivtza bais malle sforim, surely the children were taught about the esence of the day…the Rebbe being the Nosi hador, hiskashrus etc..?
