The North County Jewish Center, Chabad at La Costa, hosted its Annual Open House Celebration on Sunday, August 28th that honored the Police and Fire Departments of Carlsbad, California.
The first responders, their support staff, and their families wereinvited to come to the Jewish Center for a day of food and fun that coincided with the Center’s annual Open House festivities. Over 300 enthusiastic people attended including about 100 children.
Rabbi Yeruchem Eilfort, Director of the Center explained, “Our local police and fire departments work incredibly hard and often dangerous jobs. They do so to keep us, the citizens, safe and sound. Too often these efforts are taken for granted, or worse, unfair criticisms are leveled at these dedicated professionals. In Judaism, there is an important emphasis to acknowledge good deeds, known in Hebrew as ‘Hakoras HaTov’. We felt that these heroes should be recognized, and while we were at it we invited all of our friends and neighbors, Jewish and non-Jewish to join us!”
The event included numerous attractions and lots of entertainment designed for the whole family. Included in the fun was a Glatt Kosher Hot Dog lunch (with Snow Cones and Cotton Candy), a Ventriloquist Show, Clowns, Face Painting, a Unicyclist, a Shofar Factory, a Virtual Reality Room, a Bounce House, an Old West Marshal with his ‘Hoosegow’ (Old West jargon for a jail), an authentic Telegraph (old-fashioned texting device), Music, Challah Baking, Crafts, a Petting Zoo, and lots more. Each participant was given a red carpet welcome as well as promotional gifts donated by local businesses.
This event was cosponsored by Chabad at La Costa, Chabad of Encinitas N., Omni La Costa Resort & Spa, EmbroidMe Encinitas, Jon Rozansky Realty & Mortgage Services, and the S. Diego Jewish Journal, and was covered by the local CBS News and other affiliates.
