An ambulette van belonging to the Ahavas Chesed organization was vandalized late Tuesday night by a perpetrator caught on camera.
Wednesday morning, the driver of the Ambulette discovered the vehicle’s mirror on the ground, having been broken violently from the right side of the van.
Surveillance cameras nearby captured footage of the ambulette, which was parked on East New York Avenue near Kingston Avenue, being approached by a black male at 1:23 am.
The specially equipped van, which is clearly owned by a Jewish organization and bears large Hebrew lettering on its side, was recently purchased for the organization.
It is available for use by community members for transporting disabled or convalescent passengers in nonemergency circumstances.
Today, however, it is out of commission until the mirror can be repaired, Ahavas Chesed staff told COLlive. “Because of the damaged mirror, we were unable to transport a hospital patient to an appointment today,” he said. “It is shocking that someone would damage a vehicle which is used to help people.”
Ahavas Chesed is holding a blood drive today in Crown Heights.
