Yeshivas Summer Program – YSP, located at the Rabbinical College of America in Morristown, New Jersey is currently in session, boasting its bigger attendance ever – 220 8th grade graduates from around the world joining its seven week program, with the aim of preparing them for their upcoming Mesivta year.
The past week in YSP saw an exciting Melave Malka, as well as a host of events rewarding Talmidim in the program for exceptional effort in different areas, numerous sports games, and a trip!
This is in addition to the daily activities and learning that take place. Traditionally, YSP teaches Maseches Sukka, a great Masechta for beginners, while giving a very real learning experience, with similar hours to a regular Mesivta. Many Talmidim in the program have already begun to learn parts of the Gemara by heart, receiving a Sefer as an incentive for their efforts.
Learning is further enhanced with hands-on activities, such as this past week’s “make your own Tzitzis”, where Talmidim learnt how to tie and knot their very own Tzitzis. A host of guest speakers have come through YSP this year, sharing inspiring and motivating words with the Talmidim on Shabbosim and throughout the week.
Sports in YSP are done in a proper fashion, with the program split into 16 league teams, which play three games, daily. The RCA boasts more than six playing fields, including a professional basketball and soccer court, a hockey field and two volleyball courts, there is ample room for all, notwithstanding the massive amount of Talmidim attending. Swimming is also available daily.
Talmidim are accommodated in the dormitories of the RCA, which can comfortably sleep well over 300 people. Equipped with full air-conditioning, and a clean environment, the dorms add to the Yeshiva-preparation experience, enabling Talmidim their own space, in a comfortable setting.
Weekly trips so far have included a visit to Six Flags Great Adventures, as well as ice skating, Laser Tag, and bowling.
Following Gimmel Tammuz, YSP visited the Ohel, the Rebbe’s House, and 770, giving the Talmidim time to reflect on their upcoming packed summer, and plan to utilize it to the fullest.
Parents of Talmidim in the program are continuously impressed by the high standards of the program, which caters for every type of Talmid that comes through its doors. Receiving constant updates on the goings on, they are well informed, and are able to stay in close contact with their children attending the program.
Talmidim enjoy the learning, which is both demanding and achievable, thanks to the devoted team of selected learning teachers. Activities are structured and organized, thanks to the counselors, ensuring that every aspect of the day is enjoyed and utilized to the fullest.
