Surveillance video has captured a thief stealing from the porch of a Jewish-owned home in Crown Heights early on Wednesday morning.
The video footage, stamped 5:51 AM from the home’s security system, shows a black male brazenly walking up the steps to the front porch of the home on Montgomery Street and then making off with items, two brand new 48 inch window blinds, the homeowner said.
The clear, color footage was captured by an Amcrest Security camera, sold on Amazon, which connects with WIFI to a phone, providing clear instant viewing of the area.
“Every homeowner should invest in this camera,” the victim of the theft told COLlive. “It’s a must-have for security.”
“Don’t leave anything on the porch,” he added. “Pick up UPS or USPS packages immediately and have a neighbor look out for deliveries when they arrive.”

To avoid package theft, Consumer Reports recommends authorizing USPS to leave deliveries at another spot (back or side door) and customize delivery times and addresses with FedEx and UPS.
Consumer Reports also updates that American Express offers protection for members who charge a covered purchase that ends up being stolen. The coverage is limited to $1,000 per occurrence.
what’s the point of spending money to record a crime if the video doesn’t solve and repair the crime? i’ve had break ins recorded and police saw videos. it did nothing to get the stolen goods back or apprehend the perpetrators. someone told me that the other night he saw two males walk slowly down a crown heights street over several blocks, testing every cars doors. those which opened had their contents reviewed and items taken. he called shmira and 911. shmira never showed up and the police did 30 minutes later and drove right by the burglars. i’m not… Read more »
It’s must be a police action to catch the robbery to prevent others to even think about it …. It’s hard to make a police report about something like that …. Feels like it’s ok for anyone to steel here Free zone

Total 4 blinds
Looks like he stole two pieces of wood.
Yes, you are correct in he fact that it doesn’t stop the theft but it will catch the thief perhaps; still, you should be careful not to leave anything out on your porch or anywhere else open Thank you for posting, collive! 🙂

Please report one incident the police put away a thief in CH He is out the same day !!! It look like its not the only thing he stole.
If you are a victim of package theft, whether you have video or not, please call 911 and make sure an officer takes a report. The only way we can make sure that these crimes are followed up and prosecuted and that the perpetrator will be stopped is if we file police reports.
