Israel inaugurated its official pavilion at the 69th annual Cannes Film Festival on the French Riviera with a proudly Jewish ceremony.
It was the first time Israel sent an official government delegation to the international film event, represented by Cultural Minister Miri Regev and the ministry’s Director General Yossi Sharabi.
Launching Israel’s presence was the installation of a Mezuzah by Rabbi Mendel Matusof of Chabad Lubavitch of Cannes.
“The world expects to see what message the nation of Israel had to tell the world and that is why it’s important to use the important stage of movies to present proudly Jewish themes,” the rabbi said.
Shliach Rabbi Yudi Levin affixed the Mezuzah and participants sang together “Siman Tov” and “Am Yisrael Chai,” as tourists and passersby looked on.
Chabad in Cannes has been instrumental in accommodating the religious and kosher needs of Israeli and Jewish visitors to the film festival.
A large Shabbos meal was hosted on the beach in cooperation with Rabbi Mendel Schwartz of the Chai Center in California.
Minister Regev thanked Chabad for their service and said she was proud that the Israeli flag was seen “at one of the most important film events in the world.”
A mezuza is only NEEDED where one will be dwelling for 30+ days, but it made a Kiddush Hashem nontheless
Is a Mezuzah needed in a tent thats only there for 2 weeks? (Either way it makes a good picture)
