2 Chassidic Jews from Brooklyn are being credited with saving a 52-year-old Asian woman from committing suicide on the Brooklyn Bridge on Monday morning.
The incident played out at around 9:55 a.m., when the woman attempted to jump off from the Brooklyn side of the bridge, according to JP Updates.
“I was driving to Manhattan and then I see this woman getting out of a taxi and starting to climb on the railing of the bridge,” Chani, a resident of Crown Heights who asked not to be identified, told COLlive.com.
“That’s when I turned my car around and ran to pull her away,” the mother of 7 children said. “Another woman and I held on to her arm. At one point, she turned around to try to go back.”
Among the civilians at the scene was Shloime Kohn, a chassidic man from Williamsburg who helped manage the situation and called the police.
“It was extremely traumatic, to say the least,” Chani said, hours after the incident. “I almost witnessed a suicide in front of my eyes.”
“As I was holding her, she said to me ‘I am a serial killer’ and I saw blood marks and scratches on her neck. That’s when the police took control of her,” Chani said.
According to a law enforcement source, the Asian woman has a history of emotional disturbances. An ambulance transported her for treatment at the Woodhull Medical and Mental Health Center in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
Mi KE amcha Israel goy kadosh.
Read “The Psychology of Tzimtzum” by professor Mordechai Rotenberg of Hebrew University. (www.korenpub.com). Mental health professionals in America should be learning and promoting principles of Jewish psychology. It would create sweeping changes.
Courageous act of Kiddush Hashem WOW
good for u and may u be blessed with many miracles!!!
A while after the Crown Heights pogrom, an African woman was shot in the head. Yisroel Shemtov determined that there was no time to wait for an ambulance, so he drove her in his own car to the hospital. After this, the NY Post had the headline,”The day hate died.” Even Sharpton admitted he was a hero.
such as the bridge in san fra. And technically if someone Gd forbid wants to end it all they will find a way. We got to boost their self esteem so they dont even think of it
of yisroel shemtov
Kol hakavod to Chani and the other rescuers. Bridges should have safety measures installed to make these incidents less possible. People trying to jump bridges also endanger those who may be caught in traffic, such as ambulances while the rescue takes place.
Bet you this has NOT made most of the local papers. The frum Jews cannot be the good guys..
Chani is my sister. I was on the phone with her 2 min after the incident. Trust me it’s true…..iv heard the story/details 100 today and waiting for the day to be over.
Chani you are the best!!
Article says the savior is traumatised, not feeling good
…lehavdil
I once heard a story can someone confirm?
R’ Yisroel Shemtov once saved a goy from jumping off a bridge. when he was interviewed he was asked a question “you are jewish- how do you feel about saving the life of a non jew?” He responded “by us jews we don’t differentiate between a jew and lehavdil a goy!” ; )
Chani, we don’t know you, but you’ve made a huge impact on the world today! Let this be the act that will bring Moshiach.
People who suffer from mental illness may suffer more than many who suffer from other illnesses.
In either case we can not ‘end their suffering’and have to do whatever we can to cure them or to at least alleviate their pain.
Under psychiatric care she will probably not be suicidal.
Why people suffer is a question mankind has groped with for centuries…
thanks great they helped.
It is sad what you wrote, but shouldn’t be the case. When a person sees that their life is of value for no other reason except that she is a creation of G-d, that may inspire her to go on and have a meaningful life. It’s happened again and again to attempted suicide cases. May we all live HAPPILY and blessed
someone whose mind creates a life that feels not worth living. saving her from herself is a well-meaning thing to do, but her painful life continues. the saviors feel good, but she doesn’t.
Happy it’s the reverse of yet another Chassidic scandal in the news! A Read Kiddush Hashem. This is what “Chassid” means. Righteous. Good deeds.
What a kiddush hashem!
This after that ridiculous newsweek article….. i guess we know alittle more about the world than they make it out to be!
Wow Kol HAKAVOD to my amazing sister Chani and the other people!!!!!!
And a Zechus, to save a human being!
