A large crowd of Crown Heights residents and representatives of Flatbush, Boro Park, Williamsburg and other New York Jewish Communities were on hand today in Razag Banquet Hall for the Legislative Brunch of Crown Heights Jewish Community Council.
Chairman Zaki Tamir opened the festivities, coordinated by Executive Director Eli Cohen and Chanina Sperlin, intergovermental liason.
The event was attended by Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, State Senator Jesse Hamilton, State Assembly Members Diana Richardson and Walter Mosley, City Comptroller Scott Stringer, Public Advocate Letitia James, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, and Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson.
The New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark Viverito was presented by her colleagues, Council Members Laurie Cumbo, Mathieu Eugene, Darlene Mealy, and David Greenfield.
Representing the New York City Police Department were NYPD Chief of Department James O’Neill, and Chiefs of Brooklyn North and South, Jeffrey Maddrey and Steven Powers. CO of Hate Crime Unit, Inspector Steven Griffith CO of Community Affairs and the Commanding Officers of 71st and 77th Precinct as well as other senior police officials.
Deputy Inspector Mark Magrone, CO of the Hate Crimes Unit gave a report on the status of the investigation into the stabbing of Leiby Brikman. He reported that the police department had many officers working on the case and there were some very strong leads, but they still do not have a successful conclusion to report.
The gathering was also addressed by two City Commissioners, Dr. Ram Raju, CEO of the NYC Health and Hospitals, and Bill Chong, Commissioner of DYCD and by the Host of Cable News program Inside City Hall, Errol Louis.
A special moment was the award made to the family of recently deceased Reverend Clarence Norman, who led a nearby congregation and had always worked very closely with the Jewish Community in promoting harmony in Crown Heights.
Reb Sholom Ber Drizin and his wife Shoshana were recognized for the tremendous assistance that they provide to the community, especially the hundreds of thousands of dolars a year in Summer Camp scholarships they provide to needy children.
Recognition was also given to Reb Abba Paltiel, Shmuel Malamud, Yosef Boruch Spielman, Betzallel Rotter, Shloime Drimmer, Yankel Spritzer, Boruch Bush, Chaim Broner, Leibish Nash, Michoel Chazan, who received awards for their service in the early years of the elected Boards of the Council.
How can these people just keep eating posing for pictures when this community has serious problems that are not being dealt with. Truly pathetic to see this time and time and again . We trust these people to help the community . Time for crown heighters to wake up and see who has the real power Us the people.
the nay Sayers here have a point they struggle to breath and get by in CH last few years and when they see a party being thrown they are left scratching there heads trying to figure out what exactly is the celebration.
Another photo op it did not help me
nice to see the late makers… wheres the young blood?
NYPD has NOT identified any suspect of the stabber and has Not put more security/policemen around ch. What has the community council done in the direction of making sure another yid does not get hurt/stabbed again????
Hashem Yishmor.
Moshiach must come already!
Begashmiut uberuchaniut,
inherence of kindness and goodness reflects in all these happy faces, a Shalom, Calm and Serenity.
SheHashem haTov yevarecham baShalom ubeTov.
To all
These individuals were honored for all the work they have already done for the poor in our community. Be careful when you bash. It can make you look bad. Either you do not recognize the good they have done or you are just looking to vent. Have some Hakoras Hatov instead of looking a gift horse in the mouth. Google that last line if you don’t know what that means.
complete waste of time
sorry to be so negative, but these people do nothing for our community!!
Whats this event do to the poor members of CH? does it lower rent prices? add parking? add housing?
-Clapmans
One thing is for certain; I as a member of CH would NOT want someone with this attitude and “Kofuy Tov”, to be in the new mix…..
However, it is always appreciated to have new Koychos and energy in any organization.
By the way, some of our institution and moisdos, set up NEW committees…..any results : (
Talk talk and more talk. Machlokes, machlokes and more machlokes.
Thank you Rabbis Sperlin Cohen, Tamir,Brownstien, and Hackner.

We are the Rebbe’s shechuna.
Thank you to all those involved.
Nice to see but high time for elections in chjcc and clear out the old regime
Give the younger generation a chance to get involved there are plenty good people around willing to get involved and help the community
