By CHYE
At a recent focus meeting hosted by CHYE, a group of women came together to brain storm important topics of relevance to the “working women” of Crown Heights. The one topic that everyone agreed was of utmost importance was the concept of Getting Ahead; strategies and inspiration to utilize the feminine spirit to go further in your jobs, careers and business endeavors.

Rotzim Masayim/;
The Rebbe spoke regularly about this concept. ‘Mi sheyesh lo meah, rotzim masayim’ – someone who has a hundred, wants two hundred. The Rebbe once met with Rabbi Yitzchak Groner, shliach to Melbourne. Rabbi Groner was proudly updating the Rebbe on the success in his community’s school and his undertaking to add 200+ students. Following this news, the Rebbe did not react with as much satisfaction as Rabbi Groner was hoping for. When asked, the Rebbe responded, “How many Jewish girls are in Melbourne? Do you expect me to be happy with only 200 in your school?”
This attitude was not only imparted to our inner circles of Lubavtich. In the 1970’s, after much effort, the New York’s Board of Jewish Education informed the Rebbe that over half of all Jewish children in the metropolitan area were receiving some form of Jewish education. The Rebbe simply answered, “And what about the other half?”
The Rebbe was never satisfied with what was reported. He awaits more, he expects us to aim higher, double our efforts, and to always strive for the next day to be bigger and better.
As Chassidim we know the Rebbe’s vision is our mission and we are perpetually doing more to move forward. Just as another light is added to the menorah each day, we understand that it is our crucible and responsibility to always be adding light to our world.
In this very competitive world, everyone is looking to get ahead. One might think getting ahead would come at the expense and failure of others, but for myself, my clients and most people, I promote getting ahead in another sense, by making use of the untapped strengths and opportunities within and around you. These resources, if used properly, can propel you to get where you want to be.
From working with various clients through all walks of life, I’ve learned that although each individual’s situation and ‘ahead’ may vary, there are a few tips that everyone can implement into their specific situation. As a business woman and a coach I write to the Rebbe, both in regards to my clients and to my business development and often I receive direct, inspiring, moving, and at times reprimanding responses, each with the theme of ‘maalin b’kodesh’ – getting ahead. I’ve taken this message personally, not only for my professional business, but I’ve also made it my mission and mantra, to help my clients get ahead.
Yedidim Mevinim
On Tuesday, February 8, 2016, Crown Heights Young Entrepreneurs will host a powerful business event for women. I’m looking forward to moderating a panel of four very successful business women, Mrs. Julie Gniwisch, President Delmar Jewelers. Mrs. Devorah Halberstam, Director of Government Services at the JCM, Mrs Malka Waronker, Associate Counsel at Consolidated Edison and Corporate Secretary at Orange and Rockland Utilities and Mrs. Devoree Axelrod, GM at AJ Madison as they will present meaningful strategies to get ahead and make your mark in your business or workplace.
The Rebbe would advise when making a decision to ask ‘yedidim mevinim’ – people who understand and are experts in that particular field. This strong panel that CHYE is presenting are our yedidim mevinim, they are our friends, our community, they share our understanding, have an incredible amount of value, experience, knowledge and proven success in business development.
As a coach and community member, I understand the importance to lead with the yedidim mevinimmentality, to see further than just the business and market, but to also see you as an individual for your full and whole potential. Any woman who is making a decision to move forward with a business venture, or another significant progressive step is sure to hear valuable insights that can scale through different parts of our lives, and I urge you to join.
