Rabbi Chaim Brovender, founder and Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivat Hamivtar in Efrat, Israel, shared the personal experiences he had with the Rebbe this past Motzoei Shabbos.
The occasion was the 8th anniversary dinner of Chabad of Baka, a warm English speaking community in Jerusalem, directed by Rabbi Avraham and Nechama Dina Hendel. Close to 200 people gathered to celebrate this community milestone and to partake in the Hakhel unity.
“The atmosphere was amazing, and I was so happy to be a part of it,” Shira Weinstein commented, echoing the sentiment of all those who joined.
The evening included a delicious dairy dinner, musical entertainment, and Torah inspiration.
Chabad of Baka community members helped plan and organize the event, and chef and beloved congregant, Ben David, coordinated the catering.
The shul president and Gabbai, Alex Traiman, was the MC, and Rabbi Hendel spoke about the theme of achdus.
Yitzchak Hurwitz, a talented violinist and recent oleh from Crown Heights, enthralled the crowd with soulful niggunim. Robert Lederman, who directed Pirchei Efrat, sang and played beautifully.
The highlight of the evening was the keynote address by Rabbi Brovender, who spoke warmly and positively of his private audiences with the Rebbe. His personal reflections were candid and entertaining, and the message he conveyed is that we can each emulate the loving care that the Rebbe showed to every Jew.
Amongst the stories Rabbi Brovender shared are those captured by JEM, about the grocery store near his building and how the Rebbe gave advice about his future.

Rabbi Brovender’s wife, Miriam, shared with some individuals that her first daughter was born after a bracha from the Rebbe and that she cherishes the letter she received after her daughter Shira’s birth.
