Never met him. I met his brother. Read about him from another brother. No doubt a mensch…you could read it and hear it from all those who met him and told me, or wrote about him. No one can understand the ways of Hashem. Chaim would want us all not to maintain but to increase our learning and our devotion to other Jews. If we each took on one new mitzvah or sharpened and perfected one Mitzvah that would honour Chaim.
I remember what a maskil/intellectual he was, and how despite his mental acuity and depth, he always stood firm about inyanim of frumkeit. At a time when many others were behaving to the contrary, he fully kept his beard and encouraged others to do so as well. When many of his classmates went on to study at university, he chose to advance his Torah studies, nigleh and chassidus, at YG (Yeshiva Gedola/Zal) growing in yidishkeit and chassidishkeit. Indeed, his beautiful chassidishe family is a testimony to the kind of life he chose and the values he instilled in those around… Read more »

Moshiach must come now!!!!!!אמן סלה!!!
A tremendous loss. Utter Shock. Chaim was a big baal chesed. His Hachnosas Orchim was peerless, so many many people stayed at his home throughout the years. He will also be forever remembered for something amazingly special. He funded a trip where Rabbi’s Yitzchock D Groner and Chaim Gutnick traveled the world to meet “Gedolim” & Rabbonim (non-Lubavitcher) to pasken that Moshiach should come etc.; and he traveled along with them. Something like 2-3 weeks, taking off business, going and paying for a mission to bring Moshiach!! Chaim was a practical man, this just proves how “real” Geula and Moshiach… Read more »
He exemplified the meaning of a עסקן
Unfortunately in chabad where of course shlichus is our goal
But without the עסקנים in our lubavitcher communities we would have nothing
As a son of a עסקן I could appreciate chaims devotion to at best a thankless job
To the family what kind of word’s can be used to console you
There are thousands of shluchim
There are hundreds of rabonim etc
Your son your husband father and brother was only part of a handful of עסקנים
Heartbreaking
comfort for the whole family
crazy
ad mosai!!!
Hashem should give you strength through this trying time
May the family find comfort and may der Aibersther deliver their comfort Mamash Now. Chaim was a caring, generous and always there for the Shluchim. There are no words other than we NEED Moshiach NOW.
Chaim and Sheina devoted members of the community, serving The community, helping others! Incomprehensible!!!
Your many friends stateside are inconsolable and devastated by such a tragic loss to all in Melbourne and beyond.

Such tragic news. Sending condolences to the entire New/Friedman families.
He was a rare individual. Successfully allocated hugely of his self for his community and specifically its education. In his personal life, was a solid family anchor, replete with social graces of the highest caliber, close loving relationship with his wife, children, and grandchildren, brothers and sisters. Splendidly respectful and loving to his parents. Quietly helped many, many people in many many ways on many continents. Was eloquent, articulate, intelligent, learned in secular and Judaic subjects, cultured; passionate about, creative and talented in the best and finest humanity offers. And he was a mensch, even when amongst those not so… Read more »
