The grand banquet concluding the annual Kinus Tzeirei Hashluchim was themed around Shnas Hakhel, and the first thing they showcased was a video of the launch of #HakhelChallenge, a global peer-to-peer challenge from one young shliach to another. The challenge had already crisscrossed the world before coming to the banquet’s big screen.
So how does the #HakhelChallenge work? After receiving a challenge from a friend, each child has just 24 hours to host (and record!) a Hakhel gathering with friends, family or community members. They can say the 12 psukim, share a dvar Torah, read Tehillim or share a mitzvah. Once they are done, they pick up to three friends to challenge to do the same – and once the call is placed, their friend has 24 hours to do likewise. They also fill out an online form confirming that they completed the challenge, and Chinuch Yaldei Hashluchim then mails successful challengers a personalized prize.
Chinuch Yaldei Hashluchim has also launched a separate but linked opportunity for children of Shluchim to join together in Shnas Hakhel – Parsha Podcasts. Each Podcast is a two-minute thought on the weekly Parsha recorded by a different Shliach each week, hosted on the ShluchimKids.org website. The Young Shluchim listen to the podcast and then discuss it in more depth at their Shabbos table – which makes every Shabbos table united in a giant Hakhel gathering of Torah, each and every week. (The podcasts can also provide inspiration if the young shliach needs something to discuss for their #HakhelChallenge!)
The Parshah Podcasts can be found here, and currently include global entries such as Rabbi Brandman of Buckhurst Hill, UK, Rabbi Rosenblum of Brussels, Belgium, Rabbi Cunin of Malibu, California and more.
Chinuch Yaldei Hashluchim is a division of The Shluchim Office founded in memory of Reb Mendel Shemtov ע”ה.
