Rabbi Shais Taub, a renowned speaker and noted scholar on Chassidic philosophy, will be headlining an upcoming evening of awareness, education and healing from abuse.
The author of “G-d of Our Understanding: Jewish Spirituality and Recovery from Addiction,” Rabbi Taub is known for adapting the teachings of Jewish mysticism to provide personal advice in his talks and his weekly column for Ami magazine.
The event, organized by Jewish Community Watch Organization, will be held this Sunday, October 11, 7:00 PM at Chabad of Boca Raton, 17950 Military Trail, with the aim of alerting the local Jewish community of the dangers of child abuse and supporting victims of abuse.
“It’s an epidemic and it’s not spoken about at all,” JCW’s founder Meyer Seewald, who will be speaking at the event, told the Sun Sentinel. “We go from community to community with these awareness events.”
Other speakers at the event will be Neva Smith, Assistant State Attorney in Charge / Abuse Crimes and Child Abuse Unit, and Miami businessmen Eli Nash and David Schottenstein.
Similar events were held in New York, Cleveland, Los Angeles and Israel. It’s the third such event in South Florida since November.
When our community joins together to confront this issue and support survivors, we have to power to help them heal while spreading awareness to prevent more of Hashem’s children from being abused, organizers said.
When my daughter was threatened with rape…the perpetrators denied it. The school basically ignored our cries. I removed our child immediately. DO NOT ignore this …..do not hush your child when they come and tell you things..do not tell them its lotion hora…go to a lawyer, take action…and remove your child from the abusers way. Lubuvitch have ignored so much abuse..the whole system is weak, weak and failing the children. Wake up parents…dont just hope it will go away…abusers abuse..and they murder the souls of the victims. never payoff your childs education and ignore the abuse. Remove them from harms… Read more »
Jcw is an organization that is tackling a most important issue as has come to light in recent years the long lasting affect and damage caused by abuse. However like everything in life as Jewish people and especially as chabad chasidim we look towards the torah and words of the Rebbe and the rabonim for guidance. A few points to take into consideration is: Do we have proof about the people who are being publicized as abusers or is it just black mailing (as has been clear in some cases). Are we respecting what the torah has to say or… Read more »
Thank you COL for bringing this to our attention. UnFortunately this is a very important topic that our community together can address.
it will not become an epidemic
one of the greatest things -jcw!!!
just for bringing the awareness in the open is great!!!
Justice will overcome corruption
There has been alot of publizing the names of perpetrators. Maybe this embarassment is, indeed, a possible deterrant against abuse. But, keep this in mind: Would you want your name publicized? Don’t think it can happen to you?
Dov Hikind (one of the first to pioneer vigorous efforts to stop abuse in the frum community) said this: “What is the profile of a child molestor? The answer is, just look in the mirror.”
Justice will find the right path.
it for sure was, i dont think it happens today as it did 20 years ago and that is only because we are more aware now and we are talking about it.
CSA is an “epidemic?” Really? Is there scientific proof for that?
It will not be for the faint-hearted, but I urge everyone to attend. The testimonies are powerful & tragic, the speakers inspiring. By attending, you are stopping these horrendous acts from being committed against yet more children. It’s about justice AND awareness.
Nice to see people in the community taking the initiative to help protect our children!!!
