800 Attorneys and Judges attended the 9th Annual Jewish Law Symposium on Monday September 21st at the Birchwood Manor, in Whippany, NJ. The Symposium featured a panel discussion entitled: “The Tangled Ethics of the First Amendment-Religious Tolerance, Biting Humor, Hate Speech & Political Correctness.”
New Jersey Chief Justice Stuart Rabner was the Featured Presenter at the event, and Judge Andrew P. Napolitano, Senior Judicial Analyst at Fox News Channel moderated a lively panel discussion and featured panelists included: noted First Amendment Attorney Bruce S. Rosen Esq., Acclaimed Talmudic Scholar and Ethicist Rabbi Shlomo Yaffe, and NYU Law Professor Jeremy Waldron.
After a buffet dinner reception, Rabbi Shalom Lubin, founder of the Jewish Law Symposium and Executive Director of Chabad of SE Morris County thanked all the attendees and sponsors, and shared the significance of the symposium being on the night before Yom Kippur.
“The First Amendment has ensured the right of all Americans to practice their faith and share ideas and thoughts. Tonight we are united with this common goal- to learn, to grow, and to explore the ethics and values of our faith; we strive to achieve balance in our individual personal and professional lives,” said Lubin.
New Jersey Supreme Court Justice Barry T. Albin then introduced the New Jersey Chief Justice Stuart Rabner, who gave the featured presentation for the evening on theme of religious freedom and tolerance. His remarks drew on historical points from the early days of our nation as well as more recent issues handled by the N.J. Judiciary.
