Certain anti-Jewish and anti-tradition forces have come to try and stop the Minhag of Kaporos with live chickens from taking place.
NCFJE, who sponsored the community kaporos for decades, is going out of its way to make special efforts in order to ensure that the opposing forces will not affect the kaporos operation.
For this reason the Sunday family Kaporos was transferred to the parking lot of Bais Rivka on Montgomery Street, Sunday 1 pm – 8 pm.
After much research, discussion and planning the kaporos of Erev Yom Kippur (Monday night) will be held in its traditional place in front of 824 Eastern Parkway the main offices of NCFJE, as well in the Bais Rivka parking lot.
We urge members of the community to do Kaporos with woman and children Sunday at Bais Rivka and only adult men should do kaporos with shchita Monday night.
You will note special demarcations will be in place, protective tarps will be hung to provide privacy for the Minhag.

Beware: the protestors are there to instigate us to act improperly so they can catch it on camera. If any of the opposing forces try to provoke you please refrain from any form of interaction. Rather focus on the Mitzva at hand the chicken, prayers and minhag.
It doesn’t say anywhere that it has to be done in public so I don’t see any problem with taking a step back. Sometimes it’s not about winning or losing but being smart. I grew up bringing the chickens home and no one knew about it. We weren’t hiding we were just doing our own thing. Not everything you believe in needs to be shown to the world. Work on yourself and you won’t have so much time to think about if others’ decisions are correct.

Bad idea. Going undercover just empowers bullies. Kaporos should have been done outside, publicly, completely ignoring the anti-Jewish groups. What else are you going to start doing secretly? Because one ‘win’ will spur them on to another attack. This is not about kapparos, if you would just OPEN YOUR EYES you can see that it’s about everything we stand for. Rabbi H ain’t afraid. I’m not Chabbad, but I do understand that when the rabbi asked for people to “refrain from any interaction” you’d be the one iber-chacham explaining to these anti semitin that you won the case so there is no law breaking etc. there’s a famous thought that is not put into practice enough. It basically goes like this: better to do the right thing than to be right. Use your common sense, the good Rabbi sure did.
I just returned from kapporos in Bais Rivkah parking lot, and it was so smooth and well-organized — better than any kapporos I’ve ever experienced. Beautifully done, NCFJE!

I would like to see a p’sak signed by Rabbonim of all communities as to whether this minhag should continue being performed as is in “bulk”, or whether this should be something that people should do privately, i.e. buy your own chickens from a farm.
