After recently throwing many successful and well-attended training events, the Council of Chabad Chazanim gear up for the High Holidays with their first ever Rosh Hashana Chazanus Concert.
After selling out their first Sefira concert back in May, the group is happy to present their second concert ever in honor of the high holidays.
The chazanim will present some numbers from the Slichos, Rosh Hashana, and Yom Kipur liturgy as well as some other Chazanus and Yiddish favorites.
In June they presented a cantors workshop hosted by “The Shul” which was nicely attended by local talent as well as some great voices from out of town. In July they were invited by cantor Zevi Muller to his Shul, the West Side Institutional Synagogue, for a Chazanus master series presentation featuring nearly a dozen quality chazanim singing and informative discussions led by the “Chazanus masters.”
“I am very excited about the potential for the Council of Chabad Chazanim,” said Charlie Bernhaut, a Chazanus advocate. “I was particularly impressed with their last concert, where the chazanim each displayed talent, energy, and promise for the future. There has been much talk about the demise of Chazanus. What we may be witnessing is the beginning of a revolution!”
The standing room only sefira concert back in May was a big success, leading organizers to search for a larger venue. The upcoming event will be hosted by Lubavitcher Yeshiva Hall at 570 Crown Street in Crown Heights.
The Council of Chabad Chazanim was founded a decade ago by Rabbi Levke Kaplan to develop the local Chazanus talent and to help them with Chazanus job placement. Together with local voice teacher, Dovid Babinet, they recently began hosting monthly workshops to sing, learn, teach and discuss Chazanus, nusach and technique and be inspired by its meaningful nature.
Because of generous support from sponsors: COLlive, Steinbock Matress Outlet, Zarchi Quality Esrogim and Essel Eyewear, admission is only $10 with free snacks and beverages included. Separate seating.
