Every summer, the White Mountains of New Hampshire are filled with tourists, seeking the mountain air and the pristine views.
Hundreds and hundreds of Yidden, from Litvish, Chasidish, Yeshivish and everything in between, are counted amongst these tourists.
Come summer, the phones are ringing off the hook at Chabad of New Hampshire.
Between their mountain climbing, cave crawling, hiking the Flume Gorge, and driving up Mt. Washington, the families from the northeastern states and Canada called Chabad, an hour and a half south, searching for minyanim and kosher food.
This summer, the tourists were thrilled to see that Chabad of New Hampshire, directed by Rabbi Levi Krinsky and his wife Shternie, had secured a 6000 sq ft facility on Main St, in the center of town. In addition, it was arranged that kosher food be brought to the local supermarket, Price Chopper.
Those searching for Minyanim had two floors for their use, with minyan after minyan occurring, and if one would step in to the Shul late at night, they would find families still sitting and learning with their children.
During the peak season of the summer, Rabbi Krinsky arranged for a yungerman, Rabbi Chaim Itkin and his family to spend two weeks as a scholar-in-residence. He shared a daily Halacha and “chazzered” short Sichos between Mincha and Maariv and kept things running in an organized fashion.
Rabbi Krinsky expresses his deep appreciation and thanks to Rabbi Chaim and Chana Itkin, for coming up to New Hampshire, Mr. and Mrs. Barry and Annette Weissman, who reside in Lincoln year round, for helping to keep the Shul running. He also thanks the Lincoln Chief of Police, Theodore P. Smith, who ensured that there would be an organized traffic flow and Rabbi Chaim Wolosov of Chabad of Sharon for the use of his Sefer Torah over the entire summer.
