A leaked song has caused Jewish music superstar Avraham Fried considerable grief just days after he joyfully married off his daughter in Crown Heights.
A song, said to be titled Ribon Haolamin with lyrics from Jewish prayers, has been making its rounds on What’s App mobile messaging groups on Tuesday.
“Whoever gave out my song should ask forgiveness,” Fried said, adding that the version wasn’t a final one. “This song, when completed, is intended to be included in my next Chassidic album.”
“I am shocked that a song, on which studio work hasn’t been concluded, was released without my knowledge and without my permission,” he said, according to the website bhol.co.il.
“I suggest to whoever released it without my knowledge to ask for forgiveness before Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur,” Fried added.
In addition to his many popular albums and songs that become Jewish music staples, Fried released a few albums featuring Chassidic niggunim. Among them are Hupp Cossack! (1996), Chazak (1997), The Baal Shem Tov’s Song (1998), Avinu Malkeinu (2003) and Yankel Yankel (2009).
AF is not shayach to be furious. He is a real ohev Yisroel.
I hate to say it but everything that happens is hashgacha parties, including the fact that someone leaked his song. There;s a mitzvah in the torah to give the benefit of the doubt. I have a Jewish Music obsession with AF. He is amazing (I can go on for an hour). However, my dear dear AF – this is the best publicity and evidence of people’s love for you and your art.
Folks passing around poor recordings of your works is evidence of love and appreciation without studio boundaries. No one will be any less of a fan. I have some old poor recording of some of my favorites, you, MBD….and I cherish them deeply.

Reb Shlomo Carlebach O”H was a primary target. Many – Avraham Fried included – unabashedly took R’ Shlomo’s songs and niggunim – and turned them into their own – without one ounce of credit, let alone asking if they could use them! Uncle Moishy…..The list is too long – the point is – maybe he should also ask mechila for all the songs he took, and then he can demand from everyone else.

One person (maybe the guilty party or his relative) insists on writing over and over again about the one who did it being shamed. I for one didn’t see a name mentioned so stop the silliness of “embarrassing someone in public”, you just sound dumb. When a person sings a song and it flows into the world’s sound waves, it is in the public domain. I think Avraham Fried’s response was genuine and not overly-aggressive. Asking someone else to correct their own wrongs, as opposed to threatening force or a trip to an attorney, is a yiddishe characteristic.
We’ll you might have been right a hundred years ago but now days each person with the whole public world on their fingertips is like public there is no privacy everything on the phone is just for public so the cure is to make an article public.

im sure that it is very disturbing ,upsetting etc.but surely there must be a different way to deal with this other than go so public.its only a short while, clearly there were only a few people that could have intentionally or in poor judgement done this. i am surprised that a man of avremel friedmans caliber would go so public and shaming a yid like this bfarhessya in choidesh elul. there are batei din, police report, but why go public?

So the guy is wrong. He did something wrong.
But who here is the rav that would allow this public busha to the guy. In Judaism there’s a special way to carry out judgement. If we had a bit more emunah and bitachon we wouldn’t be so quick to publicize this scandal and shame another Jew.
If you aren’t in A.F.’s shoes, don’t judge the size or the insignificance of the loss. Making music is his life, so when a part of a project he dedicates so much for is snatched away against his will, it must be extremely painful. Many times leaks are planned and orchestrated. This certainly happens in politics and even in the arts. It’s a great way to build hype and get free advertising. I’m not saying that is the case here but it wouldn’t surprise me in the least. Of course one will never really know.

I recall listening to one of his CD’s months before it was released (someone he shared it with) – however it was on CD and not copied – today with social media it is like a rumor – its digital and spreads quickly. Likely it was unintentional.
Not in the stealer, but in this article. So, a Jew did something wrong. Avraham fried was hurt in the process, but the hurt and shame that the guy who leaked is feeling from this negative attention is way worse than what Fried suffers. A loss of $1,000. This statement about forgiveness in collive is not necessary, not because it’s rude, just because you already forgave before you even asked for forgiveness. The point here is that the guy is wrong, and that he hurt you. That is the point and that is important.

An artist’s work is just that. It’s his. When it comes to original creativity and work it is like precious jewels. Something getting out before an unfinished product is released is very wrong of the person that did it. The article didn’t say he’s angry, but even still, how would you feel if you invited someone into your home and they went and stole your most precious unique items? Some people have no idea about the creative process and how much effort — blood, sweat and tears — an artist puts into creating just the right song, or painting, or written piece. Avraham Fried is a very fine artist and doesn’t deserve the disrespect of the person who leaked the song, or of some of the commenters.
