White vans equipped with cherry pickers were seen on Kingston Avenue on Tuesday afternoon, hoisting up workers so they could remove a series of signs which stretched from side to side of the neighborhood’s main street.
In response to complaints, city workers arrived in Crown Heights to remove the twenty foot banners which were hung by a group of activists, calling on residents to urge Congresswoman Yvette Clarke to vote “No” on the proposed nuclear deal with Iran.
While they removed the anti-Iran signs, the workers removed other signs that have been hung across Kingston Avenue as well.
One of the anti-Iran banners reads, “Death to Israel. Death to the USA”, a quote from Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in the days following the agreement.
Pressure is mounting on Congresswoman Clarke to vote against the deal, with hundreds of calls coming into her Brooklyn Office by concerned constituents in the past week.
Some two dozen Crown Heights synagogues and community organizations emailed their members expressing deep concern about the deal.
An evening with Congressman Hakeem Jeffries to focus on Iran’s nuclear threat will take place tonight in Flatbush.
The Crown Heights Jewish Community Council has joined the event, and is urging Crown Heights residents to attend.
The event will take place tonight, Tuesday, August 11 at the Flatbush Park Jewish Center – 6363 Avenue U at 7:30 pm.
“Representative Hakeem Jeffries represents a large part of Brooklyn close to Crown Heights, and has been a good friend of the Crown Heights community,” said Rabbi Eli Cohen, Executive Director of CHJCC. “His colleague Yvette Clarke will certainly be watching his decision closely as well,” he said.
Organizers of the event say that a large turnout against the deal is essential to encourage Congressman Jeffries in his decision and prevent the tragedy that will ensue from a nuclear Iran and the release to Iran of 150 billion dollars that will almost certainly be used to promote terrorism.
“Flatbush Park Jewish Center is only a twenty minute drive down Ralph Avenue from Crown Heights,” said Cohen. “It’s not a lot to give for the security of Israel and the world. I hope that every resident of the community will attend.”
i dont think that was a good idea
I would love to be the lawyer who takes on your case.
it is against the Jewish law to rent or sell to a non Jew and a Jewish neighborhood
Thanks to a handful of greedy yidden that are bringing in all the goyim in to our community.
That sign was up there for yeeaaars!!!
Were the signs hung on public property or an obstruction to traffic? If not, they should be put back up.
A vote of “no” may actually be a “yes”! Look at the wording of the bill more closely.
Few days ago I saw a car full of Gentiles stopping at the sign, very angry, and taking photos, obviously to report. They found the sign to be insulting.
From certain distance you can only see big leters. Risky, controversial design,
Congresswoman Clarke’s office 718-287-1142
D.C number 1-202-225-6231 Brooklyn 718 287-1142
if it was an anti-Semitic sign they wouldn’t dare touch it!!!
what is Clarke’s number, I’d like to call.
yay hooray. She went to the meeting but refuses to hold her own public discussion. A true leader.
NYPD is saying that someone important asked that the signs be taking down. The banner on Brooklyn came down after someone called 311 and they sent a firetruck not a whole team. Drew your own conclusion.
Congresswoman Clarke represents a nice chunk of Jewish Flatbush as well as most of Crown Heights there needs to be a mega campaign of e-mails and phone calls to Congresswoman Clarke to make sure how her VOTING constituents feel and pressure her to vote accordingly. If she gets enough pressure she will vote against.
I called ONCE, to RESPECTFULY ask Congresswoman Clarke to VOTE NO.
I called AGAIN to thank the congresswoman for attending the meeting with Congressman Jeffries.
How right you are. Out of Bllee Ayin Horoa 10,000 plus Crown Heightener’s, a hand full show up.
Thank you Congresswoman Clarke (and staffers) for attending.
What do they think they’re doing? The government is just trying to pull the blinds over people’s eyes, to hide the fact that Iran wants us all dead; just so they can go along with the deal. I hope this makes it to the outside news.
I cannot jump to the conclusion that the office of the congresswoman had the sign removed.
The signs were hanging for 2 weeks.
The office could have removed it in 2 minutes, after they were displayed.
TALK, TALK, and more TALK.
The event held by the Congressman Jeffries last night was attended by (I would estimate) 350-400 people.
FROM Crown Heights about EIGHT people attended……
“WHICH INCLUDED CONGRESSWOMAN YVETTE CLARKE AND THREE OF HER STAFF?”
We need to PRESSURE OUR BIG TALKERS!!!!!
who asked that these signs be taken off?
All of a suuden they take off signs
and together with it, the Moshiach Sign.
We want it back!!!!!!!!
If we show them that we are serious about the deal even though they are trying to silence us, they will realize that we will won’t go away easily.
Call Congresswoman Clarke’s office 718-287-1142 and urge her to vote no!
what do the moshiach signs have to do with anything???
Take down all the signs and other paraphernalia
signs have been hanging over kingston avenue for years and have not been a problem. a few weeks after the iran sign goes up. SUDDENLY it becomes a problem to have signs up.
what happened to freedom of speech?!!
the middle eastern mindset is a very different one than the american or western mindset.
many americans unfortunately don’t understand this.
Maybe they can help remove all the anti chabad signs that hang inside 770?
This is pure political intimidation. And of course the tax payer paid for those expensive unionized workers.
all the more reason to call the congresswomen to vote no
why take off the signs/ what is yvette clark thinking?
But the sign saying ‘Moshiach is on his way’ can’t come down. It just can’t! Like no way! It’s the Rebbe’s sign!
I really hope that the Moshiach Sign isn’t down! The sign that keeps up the walls of crown heights!
Did they remove the Moshiach sign?
Hope they didn’t it constantly reminds me to do my part to bring Moshiach closer!!!
