Family Raises Funds For Father

It is with a very heavy heart that I report to you that two weeks ago my 46-y.o. brother-in-law (wife’s brother), Motti Lipsh, (Kfar Chabad, Israel) was diagnosed with inoperable Stage IV Gastric Esophageal cancer[1].

This news is particularly heartbreaking for my wife and her family who have known too much tzurus, it’s difficult to fathom. My father-in-law doesn’t even know about it yet, and the family has chosen to keep it from him as long as possible, because he will no doubt not withstand the news, certainly not at age 82, and after all he’s endured in life.

I’m doing a raise for Motti, because he’s beginning an aggressive Chemo cocktail that’ll put him mostly out of commission. His wife (who herself is in the week of Shiva for her mother; that’s right, you can’t make this stuff up) as well will only be at work part time (and she is not even the majority breadwinner to begin with), because of the need to care for husband and kids.

They require serious financial support. I hate asking and I certainly hate asking under these circumstances; but I have no choice – the life of a mother and two little kids (as well as a husband) are at stake; so that takes precedence over my pride. His budget is $5k per month (or 15k NIS).

So I’m turning to you, and appealing to your mercy. Whatever you can do, I, my wife and extended family, will forever be in your debt.

P.S. My wife leaves for Israel on July 28 to offer physical help with kids and the like (as well as moral support to sister-in-law) – In the ideal world, would love to have funds in hand by then so that I may send with her to hand deliver.

[1] If your question is whether he smokes or drinks, the answer is he quit smoking twelve years ago, and he never drank. Sometime it’s just the unluck of the draw. Besides, in a man of this tender age, it is hardly habit related.
