This past school year ULY of Flatbush had the distinct honor and pleasure of having Rabbi Yanky Karp join their staff as the 5th grade Rebbe.
Besides coming with many years of successful teaching experience, his general outlook of educating every child according to his level and ability fits well with everything the yeshiva stands for and strives to accomplish. His kindness and sensitivity endeared him to his students and complemented all the other Rebbeim.
If that weren’t enough, to motivate his students, Rabbi Karp incorporated today’s newest technology by having each student use a fully preloaded tablet. It contained the mishna, gemorah, and explanations in short segments coinciding with what the boys were studying.
Now, each child is no longer competing against the class, but is progressing at the speed he is capable of. No one necessarily knows where the other student is up to.
So instead of remaining silent about their confusion because of embarrassment, the student can just replay that section as many times as they need until they got it. Rabbi Karp walks around the room to further clarify any difficulties and periodically calls up boys to his desk to test their knowledge.
Seeing is believing, so please watch this short video of the class in action.
This is one of the many examples of the innovative methods employed to catch the attention of their students and help make their learning experience as positive as possible.
“To hear from parents that ‘my child loves coming to Yeshiva and looks forward to it every day,’ is certainly what education is all about,” says Rabbi Shmuel Dechter, the school’s principal.
This coming year will see the experienced and energetic Rabbi Moshe A. Backman joining the staff as the 8th grade Rebbe. We wish him great success in preparing the boys for mesivta.

These kids are so sincere, and I can totally relate to feeling under pressure when you’re not keeping up with everyone else.
We are so proud to be the neighbor of such a wonderful teacher. There is no limit to his talents and abilities. Truly Tzu Gut Un Tzu Leit!

ברכה והצלחה
ללכת מחיל אל חיל
alot of hard work of the teachers part but far outweighed by the success of improved reading and confidence.
Now its up to the parents and hanala to acknowledge that to see success in chiinuch requires time and effort and teachers deserve to be acknowledge with thanks and $$$$$$
You did a WONDERFUL job putting together the video! We are soooooo proud of you.
I was a student of the Great Rabbi Avrohom Karp (father of Rabbi Y Karp) he used to record tapes for us. he was the most dedicated Rebbe & we loved his tapes. Hatzlocho Rabbah:)
Rabbi Karp always comes up with the most brilliant and much needed ideas that allow our children to thrive in school.
Thank you and may many others learn from you !
is proud of such a rebbe, such talmidim and such a yeshiva
I was in Rabbi Karp’s (possibly first) class, 26 years ago. It is great to see he is still in Chinuch (after what our class put him through ;)) and even greater to see that he is an innovator of new methods of helping students master the material.
I worked in Chinuch at one point and was horrified that some of my high school aged students had various reading and learning issues that were never assessed or addressed. This looks like a fantastic innovation that is an aid to both teachers and students.
yankel its great program hatzlocho rabboh good shabbos
This is a really innovative and brilliant program. The Karp brothers never cease to amaze
yasher koach rabbi karp for implementing this amazing program thank you rabbi dechter for your devotion and dedication
i think this is the same Rabbi Karp that runs the PLP reading program. Rabbi Karp is an educator par excellence. Yasher koach Rabbi Dechter and Rabbi Karp.
The beauty of them both is that they do stuff quietly
This is an amazing programs I think every school should start using this
Brilliant program! I wish more schools would put this program in place. Yasher Koach Rabbi Karp and Rabbi Dechter.
Rabbi Karp has always been looking for new and innovative programs – to keep students interested and feeling like they are constantly growing.
From his Kol Avrohom program, to the recording reading programs, and many others, this is a fountain of talent that schools must take advantage of.
From a HUGE FAN
Best Rebbi!!
