I don’t think ‘interest’ is being used differently, it’s just an observation that might not be made today. The article is informing the readership that the Lubavitcher community took great interest in inquiring about and learning of the Frierdike Rebbe’s release.

12, 13 Tamuz is a Yom tov of particular celebration of this involved in inyonei chinuch. The length the F. Rebbe went to ensure the Yeshivos remain and thrive is truly inspirational.

To all fundraisers and faculty of moisdes chinuch, I say Michayil el choyil! You are rarely thanked and we all there is a Boss that is shepping nachas for the music as nefesh you have each and every day.

Fascinating

It is amazing how differently English was used back in those days. On arrest, it says the news was received with great “excitement” among the Jewish population. On release, with “tremendous” interest. Today, we use “excitement” for positive things. Such as release. But “interest” is pretty neutral.
