A brand-new type of fundraiser has been organized to benefit Rabbi Yitzi Hurwitz and his Chabad house, and it doesn’t require a credit card!
It’s been two and a half years after Rabbi Yitzi has been diagnosed with ALS, and Rabbi Yitzi, while his same, cheerful self, has become limited to his eyes for communication (see www.yitzihurwitz.blogspot.com for his weekly article penned using a computer that reads his eyes).
Now, Chabad of Temecula has arranged a campaign to help Rabbi Yitzi’s family and the Chabad house he lives for.
Instead of another money campaign, 1,000 new and used smartphones and tablets will be raised! The campaign will last from Monday, June 8- Monday June 15.
You have the option to request a shipping label, which you can affix on a box and give to UPS, or come in person to one of the 20 drop off locations in cities across the US, including Brooklyn, Queens, Cedarhurst, Monsey, Los Angeles, South Florida, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, San Diego, and Detroit.
Crown Heights locations include Sweet Expressions, The Shipping Center (Albany & Empire) and Hasofer.
“Temecula is a unique shlichus and it takes some thinking out of the box,” says Rabbi Yonasan Abrams, a new shliach to the area appointed by Rabbi Yitzi just six months ago. “People are cleaning out their houses before summer vacation, buying new phones and just leave their old phones lying around the house. It’s the perfect shidduch.”
