A group of fathers flew and drove to Postville, Iowa, to spend a Shabbos with their sons, who are learning at the Mesivta of Postville. A full program was prepared for them to spend time with their sons and get to know the yeshiva.
Although the bochurim have been telling their parents for many months about the high caliber of the yeshiva, it took on a whole new meaning after the fathers spent a full Shabbos with them in yeshiva.
The fathers saw first hand the spacious and comfortable accommodations that the yeshiva building affords the bochurim, and they witnessed the warmth and caring attention that the hanhala provides them. For an entire weekend, the fathers experienced the chassidishe environment – free from distractions – that their sons have been enjoying all year long.
Over the course of the Shabbos, the visiting fathers stayed at, and joined in the Shabbos meals with members of the hanhala and families of the community who host bochurim at their shabbos tables on a regular basis. It was very meaningful for everyone to get to know each other.
A special thanks is due to the Abrahams, Bass, Goldenberg, Gourarie, Hecht, Lefkowitz, Raices, Rubashkin, Schimmel and Yerushalmi families who extend themselves all year round on behalf of the yeshiva and the talmidim.
On motzoei Shabbos, the bochurim and the visiting and local fathers were invited to the house of R’ Heshy Rubashkin for a melave malka which was celebrated in true Postville spirit. After having something to eat, everyone joined together for some favorite melave malka songs.
During an interlude, Heshy called on the fathers and bochurim to tell stories of the Rabbeim and other tzadikim. The melave malka carried on until well past the one o’clock hour.
By the time the visiting fathers left Postville, they were deeply impressed by what they had seen; from the tranquil environment and pleasing accommodations, to the friendly hanhala and chassidishe atmosphere. They too have joined the Mesivta of Postville’s long list of fans.
