Rabbi Moshe Dickstein, a long-time Chabad Shliach and activist in the southern Israeli city of Beer Sheva, was promoted to Major as reserve army chaplain in the Home Front Command of the Israel Defense Forces.
The 60-year-old chossid received his new rank in a public ceremony this week accompanied on stage by his wife, some of their 11 children and several grandchildren.
Dickstein, who also serves as a commander of the local ZAKA rescue team, is known in the city for his tireless efforts in the areas of education and kindness. Last year, he was awarded the Star of the Mayor award.
Photos of the bearded rabbi being honored for his service by the IDF has moved many on social media. “He is a man of great stature with a lot of love of Ahavas Yisroel,” one Facebook user wrote.
