This past Shabbos, young Rabbi Gabi and Mushka Kaltmann joined the Jewish community of Perth, Australia, for an inspiring weekend.
Alongside visiting Rabbis and Jewish leaders from around the world the couple delivered a packed schedule of workshops and seminars across the Jewish community.
The Perth Jewish community sits at the far Western coast of Australia, and is the third largest community in Australia after those of Melbourne and Sydney. The young couple are there on behalf of Kolel Tzemach Tzedek in Jerusalem, where the recently married pair are stationed and Rabbi Gabi is currently learning.
The couple engaged with the local community throughout Shabbos, beginning with a lively Shabbos dinner for the families of the students on Friday night. On Shabbos morning, the couple addressed hundreds of members at the local Dianella Shule during Shacharis and at the Kiddush, as well as later on at the Seudah Shlishis.
They also hosted an uplifting Melave Malka with the local Chabad Shliach, Rabbi Shalom White. Coming on the heels of the Israeli election, the Shabbos also provided a timely opportunity to discuss Eretz Yisrael.
The couple were also invited to Perth as featured guests of the Judaic Life Skills Conference for Jewish High School students. Throughout the conference, the couple ran numerous educational sessions and Mushka delivered the featured keynote address in which she shared her story about growing up as the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s emissaries Thailand.
On Thursday night, the program extended to sessions for ex-students, young adults, and the various Jewish youth movements from the larger Perth Jewish community. This was followed on Sunday with programs and activities run in conjunction with the local youth movements at the High School.
The young and recently married couple were uniquely equipped for the task. Rabbi Gabi is originally from Australia and thus has a deep understanding of the local culture, and is known for his dynamic and energetic spirit. Mushka grew up in Thailand, which has given her a strong background working with diverse Jewish communities.
“We are extremely grateful to have been given this opportunity,” Rabbi Gabi said. “For us, this was a meaningful opportunity to give to the Perth Jewish community on behalf of Kolel Tzemach Tzedek, and to share the warmth and love of Yiddishkeit.”
Keep up the great work!!!!!
