Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the Western Wall in Jerusalem Wednesday, and said that he is thrilled by the heavy responsibility given to him.
With nearly all votes counted in the country’s national elections, Netanyahu’s Likud party is set to emerge as the election’s big winner with 30 seats.
Netanyahu was accompanied to the Wall by his wife, Sara.
“At the Jewish nation’s holiest site, I am thrilled by the historical significance this place has for our people, an ancient, 4,000-year-old people, that renewed its national life in its historic homeland,” Netanyahu said. “I’m thrilled by the heavy responsibility the people of Israel has put on my shoulders.”
Netanyahu pledged to work for the “welfare and security of all the citizens of Israel.”
“I greatly appreciate Israeli citizens’ decision to choose me and my friends against all odds and also against great adversity,” the prime minister added.
