The city comptroller of NY Scott M. Stringer welcomed several hundred representatives of the Jewish community at his annual Jewish Heritage and Culture celebration at the Surrogates Court this month.
At the event, distinguished leaders of the Jewish community were honored for their tremendous contributions to the city of New York.
Among the honorees were Rabbi Joseph Potasnik – Executive Vice President of New York Board of Rabbis, Mrs. Betty Ehrenberg – Executive Director of the World Jewish congress, Rabbi Benzion Laskin – Program Director of the Jewish organization Chamah, and the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene.
Rabbi Benzion Laskin, the first Lubavitch Rabbi to receive this award, is also the co-author and host of the radio program “To Be Jewish” at the largest Russian speaking radio station in US, Davidson Radio channel 620 AM. Rabbi Laskin is a frequent guest speaker at the two main Russian-language TV channels and is a columnist for the national Russian Jewish weekly newspaper “Forum,” and speaks to packed houses during lecture tours in the U.S, Israel, and Europe.
Laskin was honored for “his dedicated work at Chamah, one of the oldest and most respected International charitable Jewish Organizations … for his outreach efforts through radio, television and print media; for giving back to the next generation by teaching in Jewish Centers and for his tremendous contributions to the City of New York,” the award states.
In his speech, Laskin expressed his gratitude to the founders and presidents of the organization that he proudly represents: Rabbi Hillel Zaltsman, Rabbi Moshiach Chudaitov and Rabbi Binyomin Malakhovsky, who initiated this organization underground during Stalin’s reign of terror in the former Soviet Union. I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to learn from them and work with them every day,” he said.

Mazel tov, mazel tov! May you go from strength to strength! Your work is truly an inspiration. I remember working with you a few years back on helping prepare materials for one of your Shabbatons, and your efforts and obvious love for the participants was awesome.
This honor is well-deserved, for someone who certainly doesn’t run around looking for honor — a true chossid of the Rebbe!
Bentzion Laskin is a great bochur who would be a great chap for any girl!
An ehrliche yid, real mensch with a great parnassah and the makings of a great husband. Ladies, ask the shadchanim about him!!
Benzion you are incredible person ! We are waiting to dance at your wedding !
BS”D Its refreshing to see such a presentable fit Schliach. True, they do wonders and do them 24/7 but it seems to me they ought to be concerned for their appearance and health as I would guess 90 % of the Schluchim are overweight ( and many are heavyweights) My remarks are only meant for the good (so you can hold the criticism) and i have made these same comments to the powers that be
Benzion, we very proud of you ! Thank you for all your amazing work !Especially for the incredible annual National Russian Shabbaton that we was lucky to attend twice ! Great kidush Hashem !
Wow i m very happy about you!
