A burglar entered 1469 President Street in Crown Heights on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 12:25PM and made off with $2000 in cash.
Crown Heights Shmira was able to obtain the surveillance footage from the time of the incident.
In the footage a woman is seen entering the building and ringing all the bells until an unsuspecting tenant buzzed her in. She then walks directly to one of the apartments on the ground floor, disappears inside, and within three minutes is seen leaving the premises.
A Police report was taken and the NYPD Evidence Collection Team dusted for fingerprints.
After speaking to the tenants, Shmira learned that the door wasn’t locked properly and that is most likely how the burglar was able to obtain access so quickly to the apartment.
“Locking the door knob alone does not qualify as sufficient security,” a Shmira member said “Anyone with a credit card can open the door in under a minute. Please lock your doors with a proper bolt lock. Additionally, do not buzz anyone in without verifying their identity first.”

I think her name is Overweight Colored and I’ve seen her wandering around the ‘hood asking for money…
It is so obvious that this perpetrator knew that the people are not home at that time, knew which apartment to go to, and knew where the cash was laying. She knew this either firsthand or from someone elde that worked for these tenants. There was no hesitancy as to which apartment to go to, so it was surely an inside job, which should make it easy to catch the thief.
If They have a lady that cleans there house it could be herb
if you look at the way she is dressed she is dressed to be disguised probably a cleaning lady
Doesn’t seem like a good idea to have in your house.
agree, i’m having a dispute with the person next to me wheather its a man or woman
Could also be a man dressed as a woman.
She knew where she was going. And what she was going for. It’s probably the cleaning lady or her associate. Or a recent worker.
She intended to go toward Schenectady but got spooked when she saw the police and turned toward Troy. Then walked toward Schenectady.
Were living in the zoo.

not a very good security company if the cameras are angled in a way that you can’t see the face of the person. Isn’t the point of the surveillance to be able to identify the perpetrators of crimes?
Cleaning ladies tell their friends family boy friends if you have cash if it is easy to get your building or apartment
How to do it and not being caught
Theres a cop car Right in front of the building!
she knew exactly which apt & even if a door was open it take more than a 90 seconds to search and find cash….ironicly it seems there is a cop car right in front of the building as she exits ( i suspect she was a cleaning lady who knew the apt. and maybe pushed the unlock button before she left
What Shmira is saying is that a SLAM LOCK can be easily opened witha credit card and is tantamount to being left open
How did he know the front door was open? He just walked right in as if it were planned, and he knew the door would be open?
Whoever placed the cameras didn’t do such a great job. You can barely see her face. You can pick her out of a lineup from the top of her head.
Last night @ midnight there was a stranger ringing all the bells in my building. He sounded drunk thru the intercom. I did not buzz him in but one of my neighbors did and he was then roaming the building knocking on doors for a little while…
We must be very careful and not buzz people in if you don’t know who it is..
Crown Heights Shmira,
You guy are doing an amazing job. both in keeping us safe as well as well informed about crime in the neighborhood.
Thank you to all the volunteers who spend endless hours to help another.
And thank you Collive for posting these informative articles.
The front lobby door had been broken for months and anyone can just walk in whenever they want. Also, the buzzer to the apartments hasn’t worked for a long time. You can’t hear who it is. And when the door was locked in the lobby, the buzzer wouldn’t open the door so you have to go downstairs to open it for them! Were paying so much for rent nowadays, its crazy that the landlords can’t take care of a simple thing!
