A most successful ‘Chanukah in the City’ event was held this past Sunday in Brisbane, Australia, with over 1000 people in attendance.
Mr. Robert Cavalucci, assistant Minister for Multicultural affairs of Qld. Australia, accompanied Rabbi Levi Jaffe of Chabad Brisbane and the Brisbane Synagogue, in lighting the Shamash of the majestic 6 meter Menorah which adorns the Brisbane city center for the duration of Chanukah.
Major features of the event were music entertainment, and a kids Chanukah program by the Niggun Collective from Melbourne, the public recital of the 12 Torah Pesukim by the children and of course the lighting of the large Menorah.
The event was infused with an extra dose of liveliness by a wonderful group of Bochurim (students) from Chabad Youth of Melbourne and Sydney, who arrived just in time for the event. They assisted many Yidden to put on Tefillin, and they greatly enhanced the evening with their contagiously joyful personalities and lively dancing with the crowd.
The event was organized by Chabad Brisbane and supported by the Brisbane City Council and the State Government of Qld. and the MC for the evening was Steve Austin, ABC presenter of the Brisbane Morning Show, who is a great supporter of the Jewish people and Israel.
Amazing job! Miss it.
