Chabad of Greater Sacramento, directed by Rabbi Mendy and Dinie Cohen, reached a milestone this year: 20 years of serving the Sacramento Jewish Community.
They marked the occasion last Thursday evening, yud tes kislev, with a Siyum HaRambam, Siyum HaShas, and Siyum HaTanya.
Participants braved the Northern California storm to come to the event, held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Sacramento.
Shluchim from all over the region joined and participated, including Rabbi Avraham Brod, Rabbi Elchonon Tenenbaum, Rabbi Yossi Korik, Rabbi Chaim Zaklos, Rabbi Mendel Zwiebel, Rabbi Shmary Brownstein, and Rabbi Yossi Grossbaum.
Rabbi Joel Zeff, Rabbi of the local orthodox synogague, spoke about how the Tanya changed his life. He inspired all with his passion for the Alter Rebbe’s works, despite not being a chabad chossid himself. He even gave the analogy of being stuck on a desert island, which sefer would he take? The Tanya!
Pinchas Cohen, a local community member, took upon himself learning the Rambam, and started the new cycle of learning. His moving speech about his sudden realization of the magnitude of Rambam’s mishna torah inspired many others to take on learning each day.
Chayenu’s were given out to each participant to start them off in their study of the Tanya and Rambam.
Siyum hatanya and siyum haeambam is something theoretically we all do annually. But shas is something most of us don’t get around to making. Yasher koach!
