The worried mother of the yeshiva student who survived being attacked by a knife-wielding madman at the Lubavitcher headquarters in Brooklyn was reunited Wednesday with her battered boy, the Daily News reported.
Levi Rosenblatt’s mom thanked God for a “miracle” after she flew in from Israel.
“He told me he was okay,” Reizy Rosenblatt told The Daily News, as she recounted her telephone conversation with Levi right before she took off from Tel Aviv. “His head is in a little pain. He cannot understand the miracle.”
The mother of eight spoke with the News in the baggage claim area at Newark Liberty Airport moments after she landed.
Slightly hunched over and dressed in a beige sweater and black dress, Reizy said she was “shocked” and “lost herself” when she first heard about the attack.
She said she cried when she talked to her son on the phone.
But as she waited for her bags, the determined mom said she was anxious to get to Bellevue Hospital. She also appeared stumped when asked whether 22-year-old Levi would be safer back home in the contested West Bank, where they live in a Jewish settlement.
“I’m not sure,” she said. “The Rebbe said Israel is the safest country in the world. Also, in the Bible it says that.”
Rosenblatt was referring to the late Rebbe Menachem Schneerson, who is revered by the Chabad sect.
Levi’s 47-year-old uncle, Shmuel Gelbshtein, said the wounded scholar didn’t get, at first, why they were flying to New York City.
“He didn’t understand why we were coming,” the uncle said. “He was shocked. His mother hasn’t been here in 25 years. We caught the first flight.”
Shmuel Gelbshtein said the entire family was shaken when they learned Levi was stabbed at the Chabad-Lubavitch World Headquarters in Crown Heights.
“All over the world is dangerous,” he said. “We trust in God and pray (to make it through) each day safe.”
Anyone wonder if the overseas bochurim who come have health insurance ? I hope everyone who comes gets travelers insurance! Last tishrei Israeli were in the hospital after the.car jumped the curb….
I wish the family the best.
From people’s comments it seems the community is rather ignorant of mental illness and its dangers. Yes someone who is Bi polar and psychotic can plan an attack in detail.
Just because they are mentally unstable doesnt mean that they cant think plan and execute.
mentioned his name as well as the family in a p”an today
No doubt, this has placed an unexpected financial burden on the family. We can daven for his refu”sh but we should also contribute financially. Who has organized a collection for them?
Please post how to get in touch with the family and where to donate. We are very happy to see the mother come to be near her son! May here have a Rafua Shleima be Karov Mamash, get back to his usual self, be with his parents and siblings in the safest place in the world Eretz Yisroel and continue being mazliach in his learning. May he have Hazlacha and Siyata DeShmaya in everything he does!
I think it’s wise to remember to put ourselves in others shoes – would you like to be spoken about in a pitiful manner?
Of course there are no bad intentions here, but what has occurred is challenging enough, and true respect and sensitivity is what is needed here.
Mrs. Rosenblatt is such a dedicated teacher, really a sweet person!
Many blessings for Levi Yitzchak’s complete recovery.
Ppl commenting – calm down! The family and children have school and studies, and the father needs to be with them obviously, and I’m sure they’re praying from afar.
Bh their brother is doing much better, and Iy”h will be completely healed.
What’s with the stress in the comments?
I am crying because this lovely mothers words were so sweet, so real. Please someone who can help, go to them and help her and get tickets for the husband and other kids to come to the brother.
Only in America, when jews are attaked, they actually do something. And they even help the mother who comes to see the victim. I’m telling you, it’s not like this in France or in Europe. They would actually feel very bad for the terrorist….
Tickets cost money, but there are 8 kids in the family and last minute like this, who is going to stay with them???
I’m sure father will come soon and be with his son!!!
why describing the mothers appearance and what she wore so important? It’s a bit sad…
BH this young man is doing better and that is all that counts
If your sincerely concerned maybe his father can’t afford to travel so how about looking into a ticket for him rather than commenting.
OH are you a yenta!
Father?! where’s he?!
so is there evidence or not that he had a psychiatric condition? there was alot of planning in what he did, he came to 770 twice, that took planning, think about that. something doesnt add up here.
The Reporters question about if he would be safer in Israel was despicable.
Just as we see the Rebbe’s words here from the Torah that Israel is the safest place in the world, so too may we now see the fulfillment of the Rebbe’s prophecy regarding the coming of Moshiach immediately. This yud tes kislev!!
