Thank you for sharing your story. We were taught growing up about how the spark of ‘dos pintele yid’ is never extinguished and this story just proves it once again.

The vast number of people the Blocks touched and ignited their neshamas is just amazing. Each story is more incredible than the next. And in each one, Dr Block’s humor, humility and connection to the Rebbe defines what a Chossid and a Shliach can accomplish.

You see, it’s in the neshoma, the jewish soul cannot be still, it has to be heard. Young man, you are a blessing to your people. The Children of Israel, WE LIVE. I suppose you know this, but your grandmother must be delighted in heaven, and I hope we hear more from you and your lovely bride and have lovely jewish children pg.

i am a lubavitcher from birth and have brought many people closer to torah and mitzvahs, but this story is extremely moving and motivating… just 3 questions remain.

1) did you every get the answer to why a jewish solder is worth less than a civilian suicide bomber???

2) were your parents at your wedding???

3) how do you relate to your Islamic family today???

Wow!

November 26, 2014 12:50 pm

Dear Mark, Thanks for your beautiful article and for the true story of a Neshama all those years trying to get back “home”. It is impossible not to cry when reading of a 10 year-old boy’s unanswered fright and innocence in the mosque, of the university student’s falling tears on the pages of the ancient Shabbos prayers, of the building of a new life and future on the foundations of Torah and Mitzvot……. As everything is hashgacha pratis it is significant that your family name is “Halawa” – which you must know means “sweetness”! – In spite of all the… Read more »

Chills
November 26, 2014 11:56 am

Chills chills chills.
This story sounds like a novel! What a pure soul this man had, that clearly shined all the time. Every yid has a neshoma but many times it’s so covered up, and so hard to ignite it. This neshoma lit his own soul! May he have lots of Hatzlacha in his new journey with his wife! Lots of Brachos and Mazal!

INCREDIBLE!!
