There was an unusual shout-out during the gala banquet of the International Kinus Hashluchim in Brooklyn, NY, on Sunday evening.
In middle of the dancing, in between songs, event chairman Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky took the microphone one last time.
At this time, he said, let us remember and pray for Chaim Yosef Yitzchak ben Bracha for a speedy recovery.
He was referring to Rabbi Yitzi Hurwitz, the Chabad Shliach in Temecula, California, who is bravely battling ALS disease with optimism and faith.
COLlive.com reported a short while earlier that Rabbi Yitzi requested to watch the live broadcast of the event from his current home in Los Angeles. He even got ‘dressed’ in a suit and tie.
Knowing that Hurwitz was watching, Rabbi Kotlarsky turned to the camera and said: “Yitzi, we love you and may you have a refuah shleima!”

That smile of yours brings back so many memories. You were always the life of the group! It really hurts to see you in such a Matzav. It’s not that I want to make you or anyone else gloomy and sad, rather I’m telling you AND HASHEM: We do not like this situation, we want the real Yitzie back! Not the one who has to force a smile, but the one who made all those around him – smile!!!
we love you.
